National Blog Posting Month

I am guilty of judging a book by its cover.

I find I don't even look at a person's blog if there is no avatar with the name. Yes, that's discriminatory. I admit it.

My second criteria is to click on the people who have an interesting photo/picture.

Third criteria is to click on an interesting name.

The most interesting name I recently ran across was ladylungdoc.

What's your criteria?

Honestly, I rarely 'friend' anyone, anywhere.....I usually let them come to me. I thought about trying with Ning, but if I'm going to read someone's blog, then they need to be bookmarked or RSS feed subscribed, not friended. So far, the people I've visited, have been the ones who are active in some way, whether it's posting in the forums, groups, blogging on their Ning blogs, or commenting on people's blogs here.....they're actively showing interest, and so I want to show an interest in them. :)

As for who I choose to read, I haven't figured out that criteria for Ning yet either. I haven't really been exploring all that much and am truly just waiting for the randomizer so I can bounce from blog to blog at random. From there, I do get a touch of 'judge a blog by its cover' fever. If a blog looks cool/interesting/unique or has an awesome name/top post title/banner, then its chances of being read are higher.

I don't friend either, unless I know that person (or her site). The friends I have came to me.

To be completely honest, I'm suspicious of someone (anywhere -- here, Flickr, Twitter) who has hundreds of "friends." I actually blogged about that the other day -- having too many Flickr contacts, particularly those who call me a contact after leaving one comment on a photo. I mean, that's nice, but not necessary. I hope that doesn't make me sound like snob.

I'm not as active here as I'd like to be, because Ning isn't exactly getting along with my ancient computer.

That doesn't make you a snob at all! It's like MySpace (which I refuse to have one).....some people have hundreds of "friends," but they couldn't name half of them. It's ridiculous. I'm on other social networking sites where they do the same thing, while I sit there with just a handful of the people I actually know, turning down requests from people I've never even spoken to. For Ning and places like MyBlogLog (which I don't really use like it's supposed to be used or often, for that matter, but it's an example)....my 'friends' are people who I'd like to keep track of and possibly continue reading. Again, though, that's what my bookmarks/RSS feeds are for, so it gets tricky.

I have one friend (she initiated) and I'm not sure whether I'm going to try to friend anyone, though I don't think I'd turn down a friend request. (This is typical of me, I think. I am on facebook and myspace, but I never think to log into either of them!) I am still sort of bemused by the whole idea of blogging on this forum/ning network, when my blogs are really elsewhere. If we could feed it in, I'd do that, but as it is I feel like I'm waiting for the randomizer before I start exploring people's blogs. I have not actually looked at anyone's blog from here yet, I've just sort of jumped in on a couple threads, joined a few groups, added a few pictures and browsed a few galleries. No real rhyme or reason to what I've looked at versus not, really!

I'm a lazy ning-networker, I guess!

Is it wrong that I have the urge to randomly friend you for that reason alone? Lol. *goes to check out the blog instead*

I don't really "friend" either, mainly because I don't have the time to sift through all the blogs here to find one, and somebody, I can relate to.

When I do look at blogs, I suppose that I pay less attention to ones without a picture, but, to be honest, there also needs to be more than just a simple snapshot of somebody. Ultimately I'm most interested in blogs with a snappy - or interesting/unusual - title, and a clear description of what they're about.

The friends I have here, so far, have been the ones who have come to me. I haven't really had time to browse around and seek people out, myself. (How the heck do I think I'm going to manage a post every day? Am nuts! Anyway.)

I hope to have something in common with someone who wants to friend me, whether we live in the same area or read the same kinds of books or whatever.

If I'm going to friend someone based on their blog, it's got to be a blog I'm going to read - most important aspect being content. If the writing puts me to sleep I'm not going to stick around. Secondly, the blog itself should be easy to read and navigate through. I'm one of those people who still vists blogs on a daily basis as opposed to seeing everything through a feedreader, and if I have to scroll through a page and a half of ads to get to the first post, or if the sidebars are the most dominating feature of the page, I'm not likely to stick with reading that blog, either.

I accept friend requests from everyone because I'm a friend slut. I also try to friend people with like interests, like people who joined the same groups that I do, because we obviously have something in common. I figure establishing a broad network is a great way to get exposed to all sorts of interesting material.

Me, too! Glad I'm not the only one!

I definitely use the randomizer and check out the blog, first. Then, if they are a "good" NaBloPoMo participant, I click on the badge on their site to follow them to their NaBloPoMo page. It may be extra work, but at least I am actually looking at your blogs!

My blog friends mainly... else, I don't add anyone :|

lolll... Even if we had to, I wouldn't. I don't really have time to 'add' people given the 'mountain' of things I've got to do :| And, I don't think I would be at ease with having lots of people, maybe some I'll never exchange words with :/
