National Blog Posting Month

My problem is that I blog about the books I read, generally as I read them. I just can't read this fast! I had a bunch in the pipeline too. Last night, I whined in my blog about how few friends I have, cyber or IRL, and what a boring person I was. Earlier in the week, I addressed the problem of running out of stuff to post. I've rearranged my TBR list and written about the reasons why I did that. I talked about the house behind me burning down. I don't know what to do for today!

Well what happened in your day...it can't all be boring? What are you thankful for today? What has made you happy today? What are your plans for tomorrow and the future?

I tend to keep an ongoing list in a notebook about things that spring to mind for me to write about. If I'm stuck then I usually turn to there.

If I'm really stuck then I'll browse the BBC website and find a news article I find particularly interesting or topical and write about that.

I have learned to pray to the great god of crapapolooza; who hears my cries of woe, and gives me words to let the guano flow. Staring at my monitor is like going on a vision quest; something usually bubbles to the surface and I grab at it. This has been a arduous experience, but it is like boot camp. It's amazing what I've been able to do when 'forced' to do it. Never mind that the end result facocka, I'm just happy I was able to get something out.

I listen to a lot of public radio and find I usually have opinions on many things they're discussing. You must have opinions on lots of things, too. Share them!

What about a few posts on, not simply books, but authors you really enjoy or read often? Or authors you dislike!

Write about an item in your home that means a lot to you.

Write about the weather outside and what memories it conjures for you.

If you write about books, why not just write about books? Write about your favorite book when you were a kid. Write about the book you've read a million times. Write about a book you totally, irrationally, hated. Write about how you like to get your books - library? Book store? Internet? Write about people who don't read. Write about people who ask, "What are you reading?" even though they clearly don't care. Write about when you read and where you like to go to read. It's an endless topic, you just need to break out of your usual topic.

Hi --
Well, you can write about anything. But if you're looking to generate ideas quickly, maybe you should think up some themes based on the day of the week. There are already some out there, e.g., Throwback Thursday, Blog Friday, Wordless Wednesday. But, like Adrien says, maybe you would want to pick a themes around books. For example, you could create "Favorite Friday" -- and write about your favorite children's book, your favorite non-fiction book, your favorite fiction book. There, that's the last three Fridays of the month done!

Another idea is to take a book off your shelf, open it at random, choose a sentence from the page, and then write whatever comes. Maybe you continue the story in your way, maybe you discuss the meaning of the sentence within the book, whatever you're inspired to do!

Also, once you get some good ideas generated, write ahead! The rules say no BACK-dating, but it doesn't say you have to write the post (or the majority of it) on the day you publish it.

Good luck!!

Lists are always good. I've done why I like fall, reasons I'm a horrible blogger, and even random facts about my uninteresting self. Pictures can save the day. And don't be afraid to keep it short and sweet. Some days, that's the true reflection of how you feel, so blog it that way. I also agree with Stacy about writing when the inspiration strikes. Even if I just have some half-formed, not-ready-for-prime-time semblance of an idea, I save it as a draft on Blogger. Later, on a day when I'm absolutely sure that my brain is completely empty and I have nothing in the world to write, I visit Draftland and recruit from there.

All that being said, I'm a fairly new blogger, so I could just be talking out my elbows.

Deanna, you should read Feeling Sorry For Celia by Jaclyn Moriarty. I think you'd love it. I did! It sounds like it'd be quite tragic, but it's pretty funny. The main character receives letters from organizations like The Society of People Who Will Totally Fail High School And Probably Life ("We heard all about your winter holiday -- most impressive! despite having two papers due, you did exactly no work. You are just what we're looking for in a member, and we'd like to invite you to join.") At the risk of sounding like a blatant blog-shilling whore, you can, indeed, read about it on my blog here:http://yourlibrarycard.blogspot.com/2007/09/for-good-time.html

Wow, everyone has such great ideas! Thank you all so much...this will be so helpful. With ideas like those, I'm shocked that any of you had to join this group!

This isn't the group for blatant blog-shilling whores? Crap. I'm in the wrong room. Sorry. ;)

I usually head on over to http://thedailymeme.com/ for ideas.

I try to do whatever memes fit into how I am feeling. The daily meme site is something that I check and enjoy. Some memes become something I do on a routine basis....some, I just don't enjoy. Memes usually bring you new people to interact with.

Try blogging about the interesting things that you have found on other blogs.
