I draw my inspiration from the things in my life. When I see something interesting I will sketch it. Sometimes it only takes a few minutes or I may spend more time on it. Sometimes I will do a preliminary sketch and finish it later.
On another thread you asked how to find time to sketch and since I am on the subject I will answer it here. I don't plan time to sketch (unless the opportunity presents itself-then I grab it), but rather, I take the time to sketch and that can be anytime or anywhere or anything. The subject can be a rock or a bug or a flower-just go for it. You can do it while on the phone or waiting in line. I have already stood in a long grocery line and sketched the people in front of me.
I got kind of carried away here but sketching has become such an important activity in my life that I can do it anywhere on anything. I get kind of passionate about it.
Anyone else have ideas to share?
I always carry a sketchbook and pen in my purse or pocket and if that isn't available then I use whatever scrap piece of paper that is around. It's the doing rather than the results. The results will come with the habit and practice. Sometimes I will post a sketch that is embarassing but the art police have not arrested me yet, and I want people to know it is okay to do that.
