What's your story?

I know we're out there, Suzuki moms - postin' youtubes of last week's recital or retreat.
I am mom to Blake, age 8, highly gifted suzuki piano player and Parker, age 3, who is still being 'musicalized' and has another year or so before he starts an instrument.

I started the Suzuki method when I was around ten years old.......that would have been, um, 25 some-odd years ago! Suzuki (or Zazuki, as my Mom affectionately called it) totally shaped me as a piano player. I should be connecting with other former Suzuki students. Are there any of those around?

Yes, it's excited to begin to see some suzuki piano students grow into adulthood--especially since it means we're gonna have a much larger pool of suzuki trained, suzuki method using teachers around shortly.; ▶ Reply to This

I am (fairly) proficient at playing by ear.......and I am not a good sight reader. I have a good friend who is two years old than me. He is in the exact same boat as I. My lady bug started in Suzuki violin when we lived in south Mississippi (5 years ago), but we haven't been able to be in a true Suzuki organization until the last year due to several relocation over the past four years. My Manchild started a year ago and he's coming along. We just finished a Suzuki workshop last weekend and I am still feeling motivated and inspired. Thanks for starting the group.; ▶ Reply to This

OMG, I just found your group. I've been a Suzuki mom for 10 years and I am living proof that all the pain and suffering pays off. I wrote a blog post recently about my son. He started piano at the age of 3 as part of his therapy for anxiety. Read all about it at A Wild Ride.

Notice in the picture above how my son is dressed. Now that he is an accomplished pianist, his piano teacher no longer forces him to dress up for recitals. She doesn't like it but she allows it. His normal, daily attire is soccer shorts and T-shirt. Because this particular recital was on Super Bowl Sunday a couple of years ago, he wore his Seahawk jersey. The audience LOVED it! He has performed in three Suzuki recitals at Benaroya Hall, home of the Seattle Symphony. Then he had to dress up. He didn't like it but he did it.
