Just Jenny - don't hate!
I was born in 1977 at the height of the Jennyferness. My mother for some reason thought it would be a good idea to name me just "Jenny" instead of "Jennifer" - because she planned on calling me "Jenny". (Which makes ZERO sense since my older brother Andrew has always been called "Andy". But whatever.) So on my birth certificate it says, "Jenny Michelle Brads". So I've spent my whole life correcting people when they call me "Jennifer" - not because I want to, but because it's just not my name. The good folks who hold my mortgage, however, could not believe me on that one for some reason, so it says "Jennifer" on my mortgage. When we closed on our house, to avoid them having to postpone the closing date, I had to sign every line twice - once with "Jenny" and once with "Jennifer". And you know how there are like 487 lines you have to sign when you close your mortgage. So - annoying. I wish my parents would have just added the "ifer"! But I'll always be just Jenny.
Incidentally, when I was in junior high, there were TWINS in my class named Jennifer and Jenny. I am NOT kidding. Isn't that cruel?? She was the only other "just Jenny" I ever met. Man I felt sorry for those two!

I'm also a "just" (Jennie). I guess it was common enough back in the 1800's... but, yeah, maybe verging on naming cruelty in the 70's ;-)
I had several teachers and older co-workers who simply could not accept that I was NOT a Jennifer. At least my parents learned a hard lesson, and by the time my sister arrived, they squelched the impulse to name her "just" Becky :-)

ummm I right there with you.... I am Jennie - named after of all freakin people Winston Churchills Mother - a notorious adulteress (joy)
if that isn't bad enough when I was younger I took the "e" off and spelled it Jenni and then my mother one upped me and took out the extra N so she writes it Jeni all the time....
I have to correct people all the time when they call me Jennifer....heck during my wedding the priest said 'Do you Jennifer..." I didn't answer him and had to whisper 'My name is Jennie"

I'm also just "Jennie". After making a big deal out of being called "Jennifer" one day at work one of my friends dubbed me with the name "Jennie-no-fer" :)

Oh my word, I could have written this! (Well, except for those twins - please tell me you were kidding...?!) I was christened Jenny and thus sentenced to a lifetime of correcting people who make the assumption. Sometimes it bugs me that they do assume, sometimes I just wish, like you, that my parents had gone whole hog and named me Jennifer.

It excites me to meet so many of you "justs"! It's nice to be understood! When they printed my name as "Jennifer" in the program for my Jr. High play, I cried, and everyone thought I was crazy. Well, i was 13, but still. I am sure you girls GET IT! And....

My aunt's name is Jenny (no 'ifer' on the end). I am a Jennifer and was named after her. She has said that many people just assume she is a Jennifer instead of just Jenny.

That happens to me all the time! I too am "just" a Jenny and am forever having to correct people. I feel bad doing it, and have tried simply not responding if someone does address me as Jennifer (because it's not my name!), but that rarely gets me anywhere.

I'm also a "just Jenny." Yeah, it caused no end of confusion throughout my childhood. However, it was the topic I wrote about on my college essay, so I suppose I got some use out of it.
