About Me:
So-Cal girl transplanted to the Midwest years ago and never looked back. Love Chicago and all it has to offer. I'm hoping to kick my writing and photography up to the next level. When I'm not reading, watching TV, or screening one of the 400+ dvds off my Netflix queue, I'm probably trying to figure out how to use all the knobs, dials and gizmos on my digital camera.

Mansfield Freakin Park

Must. Finish. Mansfield. Park. Most tedious book ever. Can't quit now. Can't wait to finish.

Shameless Plug for Comments

Hello? Is this thing on? Every once in a while my blog-esteem could use a little boost. This is one of those times. I've been making a concerted effort to add new content to the site on a regular basis...

CSO Season Ends

In April, I closed out my Chicago Symphony Orchestra 2007-08 season with a couple of great concerts. The first was a night of choral music that was doubly special because of the performers and the venue. The Choir of King’s...

Review: The Rape of Nanking

Iris Chang (1997) This chronicle of Japan’s decimation of the Chinese city and its inhabitants during WWII is every bit as disturbing and difficult to read as you might imagine. The atrocities committed and the horrors witnessed rival the worst...

Anyone have a good remedy for a cold?

Added a post Nov 4 2007

I'm a big believer in the healing power of hot and sour soup. The last few years, when I've gotten sick, I skip the chicken soup and go straight for the Thai hot and sour soup. It's full of healthy... Read More »

Randomizer?

Added a post Oct 28 2007

Is anyone else still experiencing a problem with frequent repeats? I just spent an hour in front of the TV hitting the randomizer button and seemed to be recycling through the same 25 or so blogs w... Read More »

A Weak Week of TV

Everything I watched this week seemed to miss the mark--

House
I initially really liked this season's candidate competition but the premise seemed a bit tired with this week's episode and I groaned when no one was eliminated. Ugh, this could go on a long time. I'm not so interested in any of these new characters; my favorite was the older gentleman, the impostor doctor who was eliminated last week. Bummer.

The Of

Remembering Deborah Kerr

One of my all-time favorite actresses, Deborah Kerr, has died. She was 86.

Sometime in my early teens I became a film buff when I discovered classic film on TV. Late nights and Saturday afternoons were spent watching the greats: Bette Davis, Cary Grant, Barbara Stanwyck, The Marx Brothers, Ingrid Bergman, Spencer Tracy, Katharine Hepburn, Jimmy…

TV Winners and Loser...So Far

A quick rundown of shows I'm watching this fall, in no particular order. Spoilers ahead.

K-Ville
Absolutely ridiculous. This week's episode confirmed my theory that K-Ville will center on no small story line. Once again, Cobb and Boulet catch a murder that's not just any murder: 1) The victim is a city councilman, 2) who's linked to a high-class brothel, 3) and is involved in a controversial post-Katrina land development deal, 4) wi…

Thanks for the kitty comment. There's a video of her doing lots of bad things with my *not funny* lolcat captions on my page...

She's still less than a year old, but seems to be getting lazier by the day. She makes up for it by being more destructive with every move she makes...

Thanks for the comment! It is my photo...I took it on a camping trip to Chain O Lakes state park about 50 miles north of the city, a couple weekeends ago. I have to say that I am quite in love with it right now myself. I keep putting it as the background on all the computers that I work on. I totally love autumn.

Hey Kathryn, I'm a lifelong-Chicago-area-an and I'm really trying to get my So-Cal boyfriend to transplant to the Midwest and never look back, too. Got any good selling points I should focus on?

Hi Kathryn,

I'm a fellow Chicagoan (northern burbs). I'm a little overextended at the moment with "social networking" but I'll check in with you again soon.

Best,
Tena
