Food (and Read This Blog)

A few months ago, I emailed one of my blog-pals, Whiskey Marie, to ask her advice on something new to do with skinless, boneless, chicken breasts. I was in a bit of a slump and wanted to do something new with them, because Mrs Gunfighter isn't really into most meat products. Here is the deal: Unless it is a roasted chicken, meat products must not look like.

Single Parenting Is Tough

You know something? Single parenting is tough.

Sure, most of you that will read this aren't single parents, but, most of us, from time to time, are left alone with our child or children while our spouse, partner, or lifemate is away for some reason or another.

As I might have mentioned, Mrs Gunfighter went to China last Saturday, and is coming home this evening... as a matter of fact, her plane should already be an hour out of Beijing as I write this. I can't wait to see her, an

Read This Blog!

Many of you, who have been reading my blog for a while know this person's blog. You know it because you have seen her many thoughtful, cogent comments about the foolishness that I often post about, For those of you that haven't visited her yet, be sure to do so. If you are anything like me, you like smart. This lady is smart.

Her name... well, her nom de internet is Soccer Mom in Denial, but since that takes a long to type (f

Gunfighter & The Virginia DMV

(This story took place Wednesday, October 31st)

So, I dropped SoccerGirl off for school, and scooted over to the DMV... the one here in Woodbridge.

I drove into the lot, and noted the small number of cars there. Great!

I had ALL of my paperwork... that's right, all of it, because your pal Gunfighter likes to be prepared, like the Boy Scout that I was in my long-disappeared youth.

So, I breeze up to the information counter

I just noticed the rugby reference in your bio...
I haven't seen a rugby game in ages, given that my hubby is not big on sport. Thankfully, the commercial stations have bought the rights to telecast most of the games so you don't have to rely on cable. One of the things that I like about rugby, is how damn chaotic it is. Each player has to be alert at all times, otherwise the opposition might just stamp on through. Rugby League is a watered down version of this very cool sport.
When I was growing up my dad used to watch three sports: Aussie Rules footy, Rugby League, and Cricket. Aussie Rules is just as chaotic as Rugby, so I tend to enjoy it more. I always found Cricket to be a fascinating sport and considered joining a women's team at one stage. Just as well that I didn't, because I think I would have been bored out of my mind. Recently the guys in charge of organizing international games have been looking for ways to promote the dying sport and have come up with two forms of the game: Beach Cricket and 20/20. Both forms of the game are gaining lots of the attention, and made the game more interesting.

I'd assume that you're referring to Gridiron. :D I love the game, but we have a crappy television service so I miss out on a lot of games. I took a major liking to the college league during a visit to my father-in-law in Pensacola a few years ago.
In Australia, the sport is gathering momentum, though some of the larger companies are still piping money in the blossoming Soccer league. More recently a beach football competition started as a way of creating some interest for the field-based game. So far it seems to be working, with some sponsorship and commercial interest for the game, though there is little in the way of support from TV stations.

I was going to comment on something I read at the group Blogging While White only to see that you said everything I was thinking only better, plus I didn't want to join a group with that name. I see someone below me said the same thing. Thanks for clearing it up for future people who might come across that post.

Congrats for your cogent and witty analysis over at 'Blogging while White'. I was thinking of responding myself but wasn't very enthused on joining a group with that title.

Did I ever tell you I left you something at my blog? I don't know if I mentioned it, but I did. Leave something for you I mean.
You'll have to search a little for it now because I am just too lazy to find you the link. It was last week... like Thursday I think and the post it titled something like Uncertain what to say.
You'll find it. I know how you like digging around in the archives... :)

Thanks for the welcome to the group. I'm not one to jump in and talk about things, more of a patient observer. But I appreciate the offer.
