I'm a 30 year old blogger, writer, reader and elementary school teacher. I live in the wilds of Wilmington, NC and I think the phrase "Save it for later" is hilarious.
I just came across your profile in this network. I would like to extend an invitation to join Allvoices.com. It’s a citizen journalist site. We discuss, debate, post news and report news about everything under the sun. Allvoices also has an incentive program for writers and they can make money writing, earn up to $10,000 cash. Did I mention you are my people? I love that you wrote a novel for yourself! I am at the part in the process where I have completed only small stuff (stories, essays) but what I really want to do is be a novelist. I have about four projects going - and an inability (at the moment) to imagine letting any of them out into the world which is probably why I can't make myself complete them. It never occurred to me to mark one off for myself and to launch the next one! Brilliant. You're brilliant. I look forward to reading novel number 2. :D
You worry about being long-winded too?? You are my people. Please don't ever (EVER) worry about that with me. I'm a wordy wench who has to work hard to be terse or pithy. My first (and sometimes second) round editing process is about vicious and repeated deleting. I have writing business questions for you (which you may have addressed in blog posts earlier than the ones I've gotten to read so far - if so just point me there). How are you going about selling your novel? Do you have an agent? Are you playing the query game? I grew up around the music business and saw soooo many talented artists screw up the business end of things. I want not to do that as a writer. I'm interested in seeing how other people navigate the publishing process. Peace.
Megs -
Thanks for your thoughtful response to my (probably too nosy) questions on the NC group discussion. What you said made me want to go check out Greensboro and revisit Wilmington! (As a by the by, I went to UofMd then later lived in Arlington and worked in DC - so it was very interesting to hear your thoughts on your move by stages. I remember my time in the DC area as being intense and busy - but I did very much enjoy not having to drive.) I look forward to reading more of your blog - especially to reading more about your novel! Woo hoo, girl! I am all kinds of impressed.
Peace.
