Library Diva
About Me:
I am a curator at a history museum in New York State, and a lifelong bookworm. As my tagline says, I maintain a blog for those who believe summer library hours should be longer, not shorter. I have two cats and this month, I will not only be participating in NaBloPoMo, but will be taking a seven-year, mostly long-distance relationship to the next level, when my boyfriend moves in with me. I have new libraries to explore, a relationship that's basically starting all over again, and lots of other exciting things going on. It should be a good month to do this!

Who is still going the pace with NaBloPoMo?

Added a reply Nov 25 2007

Hey, I have no right to complain about anyone else not leaving comments! I'm a bad comment-leaver too, often because I can't think of anything to say, despite how thought-provoking, funny or well-w... Read More »

Who is still going the pace with NaBloPoMo?

Added a post Nov 24 2007

My fellow bloggers provided me with the motivation to keep going. Mid-month, things were falling apart for me on NaBloPoMo and elsewhere in my life. I wrote this long post about how I didn't feel I... Read More »

If you're successful at this

Added a post Nov 7 2007

Even if you can't make it a career, it's a good sideline. I haven't done it in a while, but once made seven months' worth of car payments with freelancing. It's nice extra money, a good creative ou... Read More »

Victimized

Being a curator is generally not considered a dangerous occupation. Sure, I heard some grim stories in graduate school about textiles experts who spent their careers working in unventilated rooms with things that had used arsenic and lead in the dyeing process, and the bizarre brain cancers that cut their lives short. But by and large, the worst hazards a curator faces in the c

Childhood Favorites

My old description used to say that this was "A Blog About Books, From a Lifelong Fan of Them." It's true. Ever since I can remember, I've been a reader. When I was 13, I went to a school dance and slept over at a friend's house, and my dad said that he was pretty sure it was the first time I'd gone anywhere for an extended period of time without a book. Even now, I'll often ca

Short Takes

Over at NaBloPoMo, Elizabeth Coplan asked me about short fiction. As I've been running out of gas a bit the past few days, her comment was like manna from heaven for me: here was a topic I hadn't thought of, that was a

One from the archives

Well, I've mentioned before my love for Motley Crue's autobiography, The Dirt. It's time to finally post about it!

I am not a big fan of The Gilmore Girls, but I have watched it from time to time. Lorelei had a fine explanation of this book: "It's like, just when you think you've read the most disgusting thing, they come up with something else." That'

The Summer of Good Books

The year was 2005. I'd just finished graduate school, and took an internship in Western Massachusetts to fil the gap between college and gainful, full-time employment. A few days before I left, I learned (much to my displeasure) that I'd have to share the intern housing with another woman, and that we had no cable TV or internet. The horrors of it all! Without any real way to b

I'm really into short stories these days. Do you have any favorite authors?

Hi there! There is a spate of "random meme" tagging going on. Seeing as how you are in the "What do I blog about NOW?" group, I figured you might welcome a memish obligation? I have linked to you on http://amusingonlife.blogspot.com

(with apologies! The meme made me do it!)

Hi, Library Diva! Thanks for stopping by. You've just inspired me to open the harp group up to harp-lovers, not just harp-players. So come and join, if you like!

Wow, sounds like you have a lot going on. I am an Upstater, too (by way of the west coast). Congrats on the relationship, my husband and I were cross country for 2+ years before we settled out here in the Adirondacks.

Hey LD! Don't forget there is a lot more to NY than NYC. Rochester doesn't live in its shadow, we stay here because it rocks!
