Do you think it's rude not to leave comments behind?

Added a post Nov 18 2007

I struggle to leave pithy, concise, insightful, witty comments. Anyone who's read one of my posts knows that I tend to run off at the mouth. Often I start writing a comment, only to find that I hav... Read More »

Surprise!

'There's something I have to tell you,' said the email from my Dad. 'Something about my past.'

My mind raced. What was he talking about? Did he have HIV? A criminal record? I emailed him back straight away to ask what the hell was going on. In response, he forwarded me an email.

'Dear Roger,

I don't know how to tell you this, so I guess I'll just jump right in and say it. I have been told that you are my biological father.'

The letter wen…

Teen girls hunted by sharks

Today I wanted to write something penetrating and insightful about tomorrow's election. There is plenty of fodder: a hokey, anti-Muslim, anti-Labor propaganda pamphlet traced back to some very dodgy Liberals; the Federal takeover of the Mersey hospital in a gratuitous vote-buying exercise; the confirmation that John Howard does intend to retire and thus we would be left with Prime Minister Peter Costello. Saying this would not be

Touching

It's happened again. The unthinkable.

My thighs have started touching.

The warning signs were there. I could have done something about this months ago. But instead of walking to work, I elected to sleep in. Instead of doing yoga, I was blogging. Instead of mineral water, I chose wine.

Ruby (Rhodesian Ridgeback, personal trainer, friend) tried to warn me. She advised me to go for a daily walk. Indeed, she begged. But I ignored her pleas, and now this.

I put…

Pork Cannelloni recipe

I am a great cook. Learning to make delicious food was a way to compensate for my lack of musical talent. I was always awestruck by the way my brother and sisters bridged the divide between themselves and other people by making beautiful music. My attempts tended to drive people from me, rather than attracting them, so I had to find a better way.

My culinary journey began with a year spent in Italy, aged 16. I found that the Italian way of teaching things seemed to be to jeer at you f…

Taste sensation

When Fizzy wants to taste something I know she won't like, I let her do it. I figure it's a good way to learn the lesson. Yesterday she came to me with a packet of smoked anchovies. They're in a packet labelled 'Cat treats,' and I give them to Ruby as training rewards. You can smell these suckers from three blocks away the moment you open the cupboard, so Ruby was trotting faithfully alongside Fizzy as she held out the packet.

'Do you want to try on

Thanks, Stella! I'm always so encouraged when I hear about people who like what I have to say. I've added you, as well, and I'll be checking in on your NaBloPoMo efforts.

I'm finding this whole experience a really neat way to meet other bloggers. :)

Hi Stella! Thanks for visiting my blog! If you like spicy foods, the recipe I posted today (Nov 16) is one of my favorites. It doesn't look all that great but it tastes fabulous. Do let me know if you try anything!

Hi new friend! Thanks for the comment. This year's nablopomo is already better than all of last year's combined!

1. I am an editor and this past year I started working for a dermatologist. I have an uncanny knack for editing without actually comprehending the text, but since I started editing medical content I've been learning so much and enjoying all of the wacky things that happen in the world of dermatology! Lame, perhaps.
2. Basically anything by Kurt Vonnegut. Everything I've read that he wrote blows my mind. (If I have to pick one I'd say God Bless You, Mr. Rosewater.)
3. Who would play me in a movie? Ideally? Clare Danes. More likely? Hmm, maybe Steve Buscemi in drag? Delete Comment
