About Me:
The Missus is a 30-ish married woman living in the South End of Boston, Massachusetts. Currently, I work in interactive marketing; but have a wide background in writing. My hobbies include Bikram yoga, indulging in fashion, reading and writing (but no 'rithmatic.) Some of my favorite things include sunny days, 80's music, daisies & carnations, new jeans from Jean Therapy and coffee from Peet's. My pet peeves include people who chew with their mouth open, tardiness, politics in the work place and mean baristas at Starbucks.

Happy America Kicks Ass Day!

I just realized something... This is my last July 4th in America.

Next July, I will be living in Canada. And I will have to celebrate "Canada Day." Which is like July 4th... Only they don't have any "blue" in their flag... And people don't go around saying, "Happy 4th of July! America kicks ass!" like someone said to me on my way to yoga this morning.

I will have to start saying "Canada kicks ass!" when I celebrate Canada Day next year. I do plan to become a Canadian citizen someday.

But for one last time, "Happy America Kicks Ass Day!"

Day 12: Extra Juicy!

Such a packed class today!

Well, not surprising, really. There were only two classes offered today between the two studios. One at Harvard Square at 8am and a noon in Boston. I went to the noon class. And it was completely full. And a full class on a hot and humid day like today means one thing:

EXTRA SWEATY!

Or as I like to say, "Extra juicy!"

It was a good class for me overall. But I did have one weird thing happen today... I momentarily faded to black during Eagle Pose. It was odd. Eagle Pose comes fairly early in the series. And though it's one of the more difficult postures for me (because my hips are wide and not opened easily), I usually can make it through. But today, during one side, I saw everything fade to black for a few seconds.

I lost my balance and fell forward with my hands out. So it didn't look like anything more than me losing my balance. And I recovered pretty quickly and continued with my practice. It as just odd. Never had that happen before in class.

Tomorrow is Day 13. It will be the 9am in Boston tomorrow!

Chunky Stiletto Sandals.

I know I've written about these in the past... But I am seriously loving the whole chunky stiletto sandal look!

Look at these Extreme Cutout ones from Christian Dior.

J'adore Dior!

But, even though I love this trend. I'm not quite sure how to incorporate it. It seems like you have to style them with items that show off at least the lower half of your legs. I prefer to wear jeans mostly... And these don't really go with jeans, do they?

Day 11: Girl Power!

I was able to take off from work this afternoon way early. The big-big boss came by and told us all we could leave at about 1pm. Yesterday when I asked the big boss (who is one step below the big-big boss and one step above Mr. Sportz) if we could leave early today for the holiday weekend, he said...

"Sure, you can leave early. Just make sure you take everything from your desk with you. And leave your laptop."

He has a cruel, very cruel sense of humor.

But we were allowed to leave early today, which meant I could venture out to Harvard Square for the afternoon class. Now, I haven't been the Harvard Square studio in nearly a year. And when I got there, I was surprised to see they still had my old yoga mat in the storage tubes. It's a very old yoga mat, nearly five years old. And I decided it had to go. Plus, I had brought another yoga mat with me, so I didn't need the old mat anymore.

But it was nice to see that they had never tossed it, and had passive hopes that I would return to the HS studio one day.

I definitely get a different practice in the HS studio than the Boston studio. The HS studio is much larger than the Boston one. And the carpeting isn't as padded underneath your feet. So your toes can grip the floor much better in the lunging poses. (In Boston, I slide around a lot on that carpet!) My HS Bikram practice is much cleaner than my Boston one. In Boston, I have to try really hard to focus. In Harvard Square, it's easier to focus. Perhaps it's because you're usually not so close together?

Anyhoo... Other than the practice being very good for me today, we had an oddity in the HS 3:30pm class...

It was all girls!

Woohoo! Girl power!

Don't know why that happened. It is rare though. But awesome for the ladies! Instead of taking off from work early and going out for cocktails, we went and kicked our own asses in a Bikram class.

Way to go chicas!

Day 11 is done. Day 12 tomorrow. At high noon.

Goddess Yoga Towels.

For the past three and a half years I have been using the Yogitoes yoga towels in my Bikram practice.

The studio I practice at actually gives students two towels with each class to use for their practice (or to shower afterward). I occasionally will take one towel, just to wipe down after class. But I rarely use them in class to practice. I've always preferred to use my colorful Yogitoes towels. I have one in red, blue, purple and indigo. It's nice to be able to meditate on a color during yoga.

They stay in perfect shape forever. I've never had to replace one yet. And they have traction underneath them, so they stick to your mat really well. So there's no sliding around on your sweaty mat. One, because of the traction... And two, because your mat doesn't actually get that sweaty when you use these.

Now, even though my four towels are still in perfect shape (no fraying and still very colorful), I find myself craving two new Yogitoes towels. Why? Well, because I have just now discovered (thanks to Bex) that they come with Goddesses on them!

Goddess Lakshmi

Goddess Kali Ma

I like these two particular Goddess towels because they are two Goddesses that turn up frequently when I do a self-reading.

Lakshmi is the Goddess prosperity and fortune. Her aim is to bring happiness and fulfillment to us... But that happiness and fulfillment has to be accompanied by spirituality and accomplishment in order to last. She she helps us find spiritual happiness.

Kali is the Goddess of "new beginnings." She is the Goddess that helps you move away from what is old and stale and onto new energy. She also helps with the cycles of birth, death and rebirth. Her basic message to you is, "To move forward, you have to let go of the past."

I don't know that I'll get the towels, as I certainly don't need them. But they are very appropriate for a yoga practice.
