Just dropping in to visit.
I need to go upstairs and cut more fabric for Leary blocks. This is complicated because I sneezed and put my back out. (I should make up a better story like "I was lifting a car off a fallen tourist and hurt my back.) Pretend my back went out while I was doing something exciting.
You should have seen the look of terror in Dear Husband's face when I told him if I didn't make it upstairs to cut fabric he was going to have to entertain me all day. I think he would carry me up the stairs if he could. ;)
I have six blocks of the Leary Quilt joined. I'm loving the project. I'm not even sure why. It's a strange project. Not perfectly executed, not the prettiest quilt I've ever done, but I love it.
I'm off to limp up the stairs and get some more blocks going. I just can't go a whole day without adding to this quilt.
Quoodling. I just love the word. Not only is it descriptive, but it's a great Scrabble word. (quilting + doodling = quoodling)
The Timothy Leary test block has turned into the Timothy Leary Quilt in progress. I can't remember when I've had so much fun with a quilt project.
I think I'm channeling the 60s. The blocks remind me of embroidery on Levis, tye dye and hippies running around with interesting outfits.
I put the first two blocks together just to make sure I could get the blocks connecting. The join is smooth and flat. And somehow fun little quoodles are happily appearing on the back of my blocks.
Note:
The pics are hard to see unless you click on them to see a larger view.
Here are blocks 1 and 2 joined:

Love this flower on block 3:

The top in its psychedelic, unmatched glory:

I was old enough to listen to the music and watch the "goings on" in the 60s, but too young to join in. (That's probably a very good thing.)
This project is nothing but pure fun.
We've been freezing the last couple of nights so I want to make a big, huge quilt for our Cal King bed. (OK, it was in the high 60s, but we thought we were freezing.)
I have two big hunks of material that are big enough to cover our bed. No piecing, I'm just going to make 9-inch blocks and quilt-as-I-go.
Here's the test block that's been ripped more than Timothy Leary ever was:

The fabric for the top is one of the Kaleidoscope screen prints by Hoffman.
The back is a pretty mottled blue flannel by Moda:

Why the
Timothy Leary quilt? Dear Husband said it reminded him of Timothy Leary or
Peter Max.
Links to their Wiki entries in case you missed the 60s. (And I think many people did in one way or another.)
The Hibiscus had four buds and two opened this morning:

The tomato plant is a little sorry looking, but it's just fun to have a tomato plant the end of November:

The small impatien is growing and doing well:

The azalea loved the three hours of rain the other day:

The big color spot impatien is huge:

My mum insisted on putting up wallpaper even though I advised her not to. Silverfish were attracted to something in the paper or the paste and not only ate through the wallpaper but nibbled on 2 antique, semi-valuable, lithographs. My Mum didn't notice at first and when I pointed out the damage she finally took my advice and remove all the wall paper in the house.
Unfortunately the damage to the lithographs is irreversible.
Maybe I'll check Revelry out again after November and December.
It's so much fun to meet people from other countries!
We have limited stores on Maui, Hawaii, too. I've ordered most of my material from the Internet. I'm also thankful for Amazon for books.
My real name is Darilyn.
It's nice to meet you.
:)
I also used to quilt a bit. I was a member of several online groups and they were great.
Quilting is problematic here in Israel - at the time there was no cotton material here (there are now 3 quilting shops) and my hands swell in the summer so as a hand sewer I can only quilt during the 3 months of winter. The same goes for cross-stitch.
At least I can knit with cotton yarn during the summer months
Have you signed up for Ravelry yet?
I'm already addicted
