JEALOUS! (30 days of thanks)

Last night while driving home, I accidentally turned on NPR for a moment. I tend to avoid news radio when the kids are in the car. I'm not up to discussing BIG TOPICS like war and death these days. But it was on long enough for Owen, Mr. Eagle Ears, to catch a snippet.

It was dark and cold when we left my son's daycare last Friday night. In the parking lot, I saw a young mother standing next to her broken down mini-van. A friend was trying to jump her car, but it was obvious that she wouldn't be driving it home that night. Friday night after a long week of work, standing in the dark with a crying baby, all she wanted to do was go home. I knew exactly what she felt. That had been me once. Yesterday I cut out of work early, sprang Nora from preschool, and took her to our local market for a cookie. I got to enjoy a half hour of uninterrupted Nora exposition. At one point, Nora said, "You know, I love you, Mom." And I don't think it was the cookie talking. She charms me.

Sex and Death to the Age 6 3/4's

When Owen's tooth fell out on Monday, we were completely unprepared with the tooth fairy bling. After rummaging around in our coin cans, I was lucky to find a Sacajawea gold dollar which T. stuck under his pillow. I don't know if Owen actually believes in the tooth fairy, but he was happy to have the coin.
