From Dates to Diapers, and beyond!

Safe Sippers

It's been all over the news for months - BPA found in plastic bottles and cups.

But, what exactly is BPA?

The Green Mommy has a great article on what BPA is, but in a nutshell it is the component found in many plastics that mimics estrogen in the body and disrupts various endocrine functions.

Children are most at risk, experts say. Children’s bodies remain immature, with underdeveloped detoxification mechanisms to protect them from BPA, as well as drugs. Their brains and other organ systems are constantly developing, undergoing periods of particular sensitivity to damage or disruption.

As more research continues on the subject of BPA exposure and health issues, the chemical is linked to a greater number of diseases. Here are just a few of those diseases and health issues:
So, what products are safe to give our kiddos?

There are so many parents who have done all of the necessary research for finding the BPA-free products, so instead of re-inventing the wheel, I will site some of them here. Thanks to my good friend, Sara, for getting the ball rolling for me!

Cookie's online magazine this month featured an article called Safe Sippers. This is a great introduction to some of the most well-known products, from companies you can trust.

For an in-depth look at what you are currently using, and whether or not they are safe, as well as one of the most comprehensive directories of BPA-free baby feeding products, check out The Z Report: A Directory of Bisphenol-A In Baby Bottles and Sippy Cups. Make sure that you check out some of the other great articles on BPA at Z Recommends - There is some very valuable information available there!

Please, if you have any more info that you would like to share, or if you have questions that you would like answered, leave them in the comments here. I will do my best to help spread the word, or help find answers!

Happy Birthday Julia!!

My baby girl is SIX today!!

Happy Birthday, Princess Tulip!

About This Mom

I was tagged with the following Meme by Cindi, over at Moomette's Musings and thought it would be fun to post it here, instead of posting only five things about me!

Tagging is a great way to network, meet new friends, and get acquainted with other bloggers!

So here goes on the tag:

Here are the rules:

1. The rules of the game get posted at the beginning.
2. Each player answers the questions about themselves.
3. At the end of the post, the player then tags 5-6 people and posts their names, then goes to their blogs and leaves them a comment, letting them know they’ve been tagged and asking them to read your blog.
4. Let the person who tagged you know when you’ve posted your answer.

1 ) What I was doing 10 years ago...

I was living with my parents, being courted by my future hubby, working as an associate relations manager full-time, and teaching part-time.

2 ) What are five things on your to-do list for today?

  • School lessons with my kiddos
  • Clean my house - part of it anyway
  • Read and reply to almost 100 emails
  • Wash and fold about 10 loads of laundry
  • Remember to eat

3 ) Snacks I enjoy...

I could munch on snacks all day long!

4 ) Five things I would do if I were a billionaire...

  • Convince my husband to quit his job (wouldn't take much, I'm sure!)
  • Pay of all our debt
  • Give to those in need
  • Travel
  • Adopt a dozen African babies, for real!

5 ) Three Bad Habits...

Only 3?

  • I am soooo disorganized - I know I could change this, but I'm just too busy! Or, maybe I'm just too lazy?
  • I slouch - big time!
  • I am a horrible procrastinator

6 ) 5 places I have lived…

  • Folsom, CA
  • Kings Beach, NV
  • El Dorado Hills, CA
  • Shingle Springs, CA
  • Now -- Northern CA!

7 ) 5 Jobs I have had

  • Babysitter
  • Teacher
  • English Tutor
  • Associate Relations Manager
  • Wife, Mom
Please let me know if you post this meme and link to me, and I'll link you here:

Rapido

With six kiddos in the house who are constantly wanting something fun to do, I am always on the lookout for games and activities that we can play and do together. The games that jump out at me are those that teach or train some area of the mind or body.

The Parent Bloggers Network introduced my family to Rapido, from the Discovery Channel Store. With Rapido you think fast, and move even faster, as you collect colored bamboo marbles to match a special pattern. My kiddos have not only had so much fun picking up the marbles with their bamboo tubes, but they're building color and pattern recognition skills, too!

Video of my kiddos playing to come soon!

Rapido is anEco-Friendly Product
This product's eco-friendly attributes:

I've got a "guess the musical" contest going on in my blog for NaBloPoMo. Nothing too serious, just for jokey prizes, but take a look! :)
