I cannot digest dairy products. It's sad, really, as I grew up on grilled cheese sandwiches, mac n cheese (the real stuff, not Kraft), Bryer's Ice Cream . . . so good. But as I got older, the more trouble I had digesting dairy products of every kind.

It's not surprising. The overwhelming majority of Blacks, Latinos and Asians in America are lactose intolerant. Let me just say that humans are the only animals to drink the milk of another animal (a lioness would never nurse a baby rhino!)… Continue

I am a huge fan of the Food Network. In particular, I love Paula Deen. I have been fortunate enough to travel to Savannah, GA many times and eaten at her restaurant, The Lady and Sons. It is as good as it gets in terms of southern cuisine. There is a buffet, or you can order off the menu. I always end the evening with my favorite dessert -- peach cobbler!

I've made a couple of her recipes at home and they are always very simple and straight forward.

Tonight I made a dish for El Novio that I had not made in years -- Dirty Rice! Not the stuff that comes in the box at the grocery store, it's homemade! It was not as good as I've made it in the past. I tried to be healthy and not add to much salt, but salt makes food taste good! Too bad high blood pressure runs in my genes and I'm looking out for my old age.

The Novio enjoyed it. I think I will add it to the rotation of meals.

I wonder why over the years, what your favorite food is changes. For example, at age 5 I would have said my favorite food was hot dogs. During my teenage years, my favorite food was a sausage and pepperoni pizza from Angela Mia's pizza - a locally owned place in my hometown of East Cleveland, OH. Once upon a time there really was an Angela Mia, or at least an Italian family that owned it.
