Ilia wants to be Indian

Image by pixiduc via Flickr We watched some Bollywood movies the other day. My daughter, dancing on my bed, turned to me and said, “I need to be Indian. Because then you can wear pretty clothes, have a dangly thing on your head and get henna on your hands…when you get boobs, you get a dot [...]

Wanna be a prop in an inauguration? Here’s your chance!

At 4:28pm I received an email from the Office of the Mayor. It’s a request for Angelenos to name their top Angels. That is, who is the most awesomest volunteer you can think of? The Mayor cares. Really. He wants to lavish the top 5 winners with the opportunity to be on stage with him [...]

Look at me too! or Why women drive me nuts…

Image via Wikipedia There has to be a term for those women, the ones who when they see you flirting with someone immediately start flirting with that person too. Loser? Insecure prat? Pain the in ass? Leech? Sure I’ve noticed it before, but rarely paid it any mind. But now there is one particular person doing [...]

Hope for my children

Last year, about a month before my daughter turned for she asked who the "pretty man" on TV was. "Obama" I replied. When I went to YearlyKos in Chicago, I told her about how the Democratic presidential candidates would be there and she's asked if "President Obama" would attend. I explained to her that he wasn't president and I doubted he would be.

She bugged me all summer and fall of 2007 to vote for Obama, but he wasn't my choice. I wasn't interested. She told me on my birthday last year, "If… Continue

President-Elect Obama's new site, Change.gov went live today. Right now, the site is taking a pretty big hit, and is slow. The page links are interesting and shore up President-Elect Obama's promise to make his administration more transparent than previous ones. Check out the Ethics link:

Mandate

I've been watching Republican talking heads and politicians carry on and on about how this country is "center-right" and that Obama does not have a mandate.

Sigh.

Respectfully, Republicans...Stuff it.

Shall we get in the time machine and go back to 2004? Remember that year Bush finagled 286 Electoral Votes, with slim 50.7% vote margin and you all claimed "mandate"? Bush himself went on the TV boasting of his invisible mandate, and you all followed lock-step like sheep.

Sen. Obama has receive… Continue

Whew!

I just got an email from ePluribus Media that they're moving to a new
address. I'm glad to see that, as I would have been bummed if one of
the best investigative blogs on the internet shut down. From the email:

We are moving!

The addresses are the same and we've boxed up all
the old stuff to bring with us, but Roxy's wonderful tech team has
given us a unified look and feel to our different sites and components.
Come on in through the new front door:

Happy Birthday, Metroblogging LA!

Metroblogging LA

birthday wishes. I'm forever grateful for the site that teaches me
more about the city I live in and celebrates its quirks and
idiosyncrasies.

Environmentally safe toys

In the past week, I've been hit up by several people for wish lists for
my kids. Nothing has changed since they were born, the list is
simple: Educational (non-electronic) toys as long as they're not tied
to a trademarked character or gift cards to places I get them clothes
(Gap, Gymboree, Target, etc). Every year, those wishes are ignored and
I'm faced with returning or tossing toys manufactured in China or
Mexico (great sources of lead which has finallyContinue

NoMoNaBloPoMo!

I just realized that today is the last day of NaBloPoMo. Wow...what a
month it's been. With this post include, I"ve done 125 posts. Not
bad. To do it, I've sort of had to ignore posting on other blogs for
the month and I definitely neglected my other 4 blogs that I own. It's
been an interesting experience. I've "met" some interesting people
that's for sure. I know that I won't keep posting every day after this
month, but I'll consider doing this exercise next year.

Well, at least the car will get clean...

It's raining. The paper said there was a 30% chance of rain, so
naturally it rained. If it said 65% chance of rain, it would have just
been cloudy. So, now that I'm feeling a little better, I can take the
kids out the house, and it starts raining. That means we're kinda
stuck in the house, for there is no drama greater than rain-induced Iliadrama.
The little girl must accessorize to death just to get into the car. If

I don't know what to think about this...

In trying to set up the little boy with some Yo Gabba Gabba, I got mesmerized by an ad for...get this: Alvin and the Chipmunks movie. Yes. They're making a CGI (natch) movie featuring...now here is where I scratch my head: Jason Lee.

Missing women of color and media disinterest

How many of you clicked every update and talked about your friends
and/or family over the Emily Sander case? How much detail can you
provide me? When it comes to missing females in the media, I admit to
glossing over them. It's usually a white, blond, attractive young
woman. Ugly white ladies who go missing get more coverage than an
attractive young black/latino/Asian female.

Early last month, I learned of Nailah Franklin. She was 28 yr. old who
went missing after a series of vague t… Continue

If lovin' you is wrong, I don't wanna be right...

God help me, but I love me some Hickory Farms Turkey Summer Sausage.
I don't know why. It's not entirely healthy, it does funny things to
my belly and the chemical taste should just end it right there. None
of that stuff can stop me from consuming two sticks in a day. Let's
put it this way: I'd rather my kids starve than share one thin slice
of Summer Sausage with them. HAHA...I said "r… Continue

Bleeeh. Sick again.

Not fair. And totally uncool. My right inner ear has been itching for
sometime and I've definitely been having yellow sneezes*, but after
almost a week of this and nothing, I thought that I had avoided Ilia's
cold. Well, last night, after dropping Ilia off for her ballet class I
realized that I was really getting seriously sick.

I went to bed

Does it make me a geek?

On Saturday, I got 3 catalogs from PosterGarden
in the mail. I don't know how I got on their mailing list, but I did
and under 3 different company names. Anway, I flipped through just
amazed at their low prices and what looks like quality tradeshow
booths. I immediately began fantasizing about going to tradeshows to
sell my jewelry. All I need is a cool booth! Poster Garden doesn't
just have booths, they sell everything, from floors to chairs to
tables.… Continue

GOP Debate tonight

Those stone-aged, zany, torture loving Taliban GOP candidates have decided to come out of hiding and actually do the CNN/YouTube debate. You'll remember that after the Democrats did their CNN/YouTube debate, the Taliban
GOP candidates all quickly decided that having regular people ask them
questions was more than they should have to deal with and all of a
sudden "scheduling conflicts" arose.

If you read CNNs website,

Hey there! Just wanted you to know that you can add your picture post URL to any weekly winners post as long as the pics fall into that week's dates. It's never too late. ;-)

It's always best if you want to get visits, of course, to link up with the current week's post as soon as possible (while people are still checking it out more).

I'm posting the Weekly Winners Post for November 25-December 1st pictures tonight at 12am, CST. You can link up to it with your pictures from this past week anytime after that. (the sooner the better, if you want traffic)! ;-)

Thanks for the interest!
