Ice, fruit, Veggies...oh, my!

My daughter wants to be a caterer when she leaves home. Specifically, she wants to be a very creative caterer. Or possibly the proud owner of a little shop of her own. Have you ever seen those little shops that make "edible creations"? You know, they carve incredible sculptures out of ice, fruit, veggies, etc.- those little shops. That's what she wants to do. Wild food

Today I'm in one of my "backwoods" moods. I'm thinking about all the food God provides for us on the land that He has allowed us to own. I'm looking forward to preserving some of it so that this winter we can have some good food to eat while we're stuck inside during bad weather. Some of the foods that grow wild here are grapes, raspberries, blackberries, huckleberries, and walnuts. I'm also looking forward to trying something new. Food Magazines

This weekend I'm scouring my favorite food magazines (Reiman publications- "Taste of Home", "Quick Cooking") for microwave recipes I can compile into a notebook for my son to take to college. Due to the rules of his dorm he can only have a microwave to cook with. I'm also looking for other recipes that don't require anything more than a microwave which includes desserts that are refrigerated or frozen, etc. (He can have a frig) So...if you have a fave recipe that only requires a refrigerator or…

Happy 4th!

Here in my hometown we celebrate more than the 4th of July. We bill ourselves as the "Huckleberry Capital of the World". Huckleberries are similar to blueberries only smaller and they grow wild here in this part of Oklahoma. So- happy 4th and have some huckleberries- or blueberries if you must- to whet your appetite.
