Since Thursday was the anniversary of our telling everyone that Kiernan would be coming into existence soon, tonight's Thanksgiving II celebration at Becca and Ari's house was nice, since it was her debut at the event.
Speaking of which, Kiernan's getting way more interactive - she can smile at people, and grab for toys, and even giggle (especially when I pretend to eat her hands, which she finds hysterical).
The picture above is from Baxter's dad's judge induction, which happened last week and where she got a chance to catch up with one set of her great-grandparents and eat a program while looking adorable in a jumper that has tiny wiener dogs (!) running around on it.
As part of our Thanksgiving extravaganza, Kiernan got her very first oat cereal yesterday, in the high chair we got to set up in the dining room. Baxter was very concerned because she doesn't seem to actually eat a whole lot of it, but she had a great time with the spoon and the cereal and playing in her high chair. She seems to be about as small as you can be and still fit in the chair sitting up. Karly commented that she looks like she's in a jet pack or about to ride a roller coaster, and the analogy is not inaccurate.
I don't know what I thought with the baby cereal, but oat flakes were not it. They're so powdery- I think I imagined something more like Cream of Wheat or actual oats, but they're more like soap flakes. It's really weird.
We thought about having Kiernan "eat" at the table for Thanksgiving by sitting in her high chair and playing with toys, but she sat on my lap instead and tried to grab my potatoes. She didn't get any, but it was a valiant effort on her part.
I guess it comes as no surprise that I like holidays of both the major (birthdays, Christmas) and minor (Halloween, St. Patrick's Day) sort. I like the decorations, and the random dressing up, especially when there's not a whole lot of financial investment involved. Dye some cookies green? I am in. Draw whiskers on and say you're a kitty? Definitely a good time. Of course, I only really like the children's version of Halloween - I don't like scary movies, or really much of anything about deat…
