Yep, I posted every single day in November. Sometimes more than once, because I know you're all devastated if you are not kept up on my every waking thought *rolls eyes*

So... I NaBloPoMo'd. Go me.

I won't be posting anymore on this site, and I will be relocking my LiveJournal to friends-only once my goal has been verified, so if you're reading anonymously and wish to stay on, drop me a comment on LJ and I'll add you to my friends list there.

Eventually.

I can never think of good subject lines

This afternoon I get to go button-plundering. Meeting the lady who phoned me last week, and her Mom, to go through their family collection of buttons. I'm equally excited about designing heirloom jewelry for them as I am about getting some nifty buttons for myself. Win-win!

My younger-younger brother called me last night. Seriously, Michael John is generally good for MAYBE one phone call a year, usually the day after my birthday, which he can never keep straight. So I was very surpris… Continue

humanity at its finest

Nothing is worth this. Nothing.
Maybe it's time we got a fucking clue, hm?

"A Walmart worker was trampled to death and a pregnant woman miscarried when hundreds of bargain hunting shoppers smashed through the doors of a Walmart store in Long Island Friday morning.

"He was bum-rushed by 200 people," Jimmy Overby, 43, a co-worker, told the New York Daily News. "They took the doors off the hinges. He was trampled and killed in front of me. They took me down too...I literally had to fight people… Continue

the boycott

Many years ago, one of the WryGuy's aunts got pissy with me at Thanksgiving over something fairly minor, and went ballistic, calling me every dirty name in the book and saying nasty things about my family. Now, we have always known and accepted that this particular aunt is a nutcase, and we tolerate her outbursts as best we can, reminding ourselves that she is old and bitter and that we only have to deal with her a few times a year. But that year, I Put My Foot Down and declared that The Last Th… Continue

Taking a cue from my friend Anne, I decided to look today at the thrift store to see if I might run across a usable sewing machine to get me by until I can afford a GOOD sewing machine. And I did... except this one isn't merely usable, it is BRAND-NEW. As in still in the box, packed in styrofoam, with the extra bits-n-bobs still in sealed bags stuffed into the bobbin assembly and the user's manual still rolled up under the arm.

$19.91.

LESS THAN TWENTY BUCKS. I WIN.

It is not a top-of-the-lin… Continue

I just read you entry about LeafBlowerGuy. Wow--does that strike a chord with me! We've got an elderly woman a couple doors down who used to leafblow EVERY MOLECULE OF DIRT off her driveway. AND--not satisfied just to have that thing wheezing like an emphysemic bagpipe in the summer, she also used it to leafblow EVERY SINGLE SNOWFLAKE off her driveway and front walk (when the snow was obviously light enough to be easily swept away with a broom.) Many, many times my wife threatened to go over there and show her a novel and perhaps rather uncomfortable way to hold the leafblower. Now her kids use it when they come over to do work for her but they're not nearly as insane with it as she was (even though it is still incredibly annoying and at such a piercing frequency....) --JR
