The Bells of Equality

copyright meloukhia Ok, can I just say how awesome it is that the Republican dominated California supreme court gave the thumbs up to gay marriage? Sure, it was four to three, but still, I am excited beyond words that the court affirmed the constitutional right to marry for California gays and lesbians. It is not [...]

Melting Masks

copyright meloukhia An embedded journalist in Afghanistan is writing about his experiences for the Guardian, and taking some pretty neat pictures. I like pictures. John McCain, the presumptive Republican nominee, doesn’t seem to be getting a lot of press right now, because everyone’s distracted by the Democratic popularity contest. But we should be paying attention to [...]

Book 132: Generation Kill

copyright meloukhia Yet another one of the books to come out of the Iraq War, Generation Kill was written by an embedded journalist who observed the early days of the invasion, and it was very interesting to read at the time. I thought I’d re-read it, since I seem to be reading a lot of [...]

Forcing Our Hand

copyright meloukhia Robert Kaplan has a very intriguing op-ed in the Times discussing the situation in Myanmar which I think is well worth reading, given that it’s fairly brief and Robert Kaplan often has an interesting take on situations, especially situations which seem intractable. I’m not quite happy with the piece; it seems like there’s [...]

Seething Sailors

copyright meloukhia George Bush gets used in advertising overseas a lot, apparently. Some of these ads are pretty neat…while others, er, don’t cross cultural lines well. Polar bears are finally getting some protection under the Endangered Species Act. About time. Needle exchange activists in Texas are facing charges for distributing drug paraphernalia. In Italy, the CIA is on [...]

Actually, your chances were probably much better, given that so many people failed to complete; it would be interesting to see finishing statistics although I know it would be a logistical nightmare. Read More »

November 30: It ain't bragging if you can do it

Added a post Nov 30 2007

Yippee! I'm going to go on a long bike ride and then eat a dangerously cheese laden hamburger from my favorite local burger joint. Which I realize is kind of oxymoronic, but it will taste so very g... Read More »

Blog Post Titles

Added a post Nov 30 2007

Coming up with titles can be really challenging. I got on this kick earlier in the year of using a surrealist "Adjective Noun" format for my daily roundups of interesting links, and now that I've s... Read More »

Cake

I'm experimenting with cake recipes this week, because my birthday is rapidly approaching and I need to create the perfect cake. Cake #2 is cooling on the rack right now, and I think it might be the one, as in the most excellent cake ever. My whole house is filled with the intoxicating scent of delicious fluffy vanilla buttermilk cake, which is why I'm posting on Ning, because I need to exercise self control and let the cake cool so that I can make frosting for it before I try a slice. …

Holiday Time is Comfy Boobs Time

This post is about a topic dear to my heart: bras. And it's important enough that I decided to cross-post it here as well as publishing it on my website.

Men, you may want to go elsewhere.

Ladies, are you wearing the right bra? I know it's starting to sound cliched, but a large number of women are wearing the wrong sized bra. Not only is this insanely uncomfortable, it's also not very good for your ta-tas. There are also a lot of bra styles out there, to meet a wide variety o…

Ready to Rock

I am wicked excited about doing NaBloPoMo again. Last time, I got introduced to an amazing number of awesome blogs, and I hope the NaBloPoMo Randomizer gets resurrected again, because I had hours of fun with it. Being a freelance writer, I'm pretty good at finding procrastination tools, and the Randomizer was one of the best procrastinating tools ever.

I see lots of members already, so I think NaBloPoMo is going to be huge this year...although I wonder if/how sites are going to be poli…

Wow! Thanks for referring to me in your regular blog ! I had to stare at my name a few times before I realized it was me that you were referring to.

Nice post there on Veterans Day. Very true about it not being honored much in the U.S. anymore. But for the fact that my daughter's high school marching band played at the local Veteran's Hall, I don't even know if I would have remembered.

I'm doing this thing for the second year, but it's taken me a while to get into the ning of it. All my posts will stay on my "real" blog and not here, but I'm starting to get the hang of hanging out around here.

I love the writing prompts group you started and I promise you'll get sick of me before it is all said and done.

Here's a comment - I love Fort Bragg! We go up there several times a year and usually stay at the motel on the hill that overlooks the beach with the train trestle.
