I'm also the only idiot I know who never STOPPED posting every day after LAST year's NaBloPoMo ended (for the record, I only missed St. Patrick's Day and no, I wasn't drunk on green beer and boiled dinner - I just forgot).

I planted some in my garden many moons ago (where did that garden go?) and my mother commented, "well, they are so short-lived, with such a short blooming time" -- she says the same thing about lilacs, etc. which makes you wonder why she bothers to grow anything at all! One of my favorite things about the spring is the utter garish gaudiness of all the flowers, and then, when the weather encourages, the scent of my three lilac bushes blowing on the breeze. Aahhhh.

And yes, it's an iris. I left a comment on your page, but I'll say it again here, too, for anyone who's interested - irises are my most favorite flower, and I love the elegance of this image (which I stole, shamelessly, from a website so long ago that I can't remember where I got it). I'm not a particularly elegant person, but I do like to surround myself with simple, beautiful things. This image is something I aspire to...
