Old friends - Why I love facebook and texting

Fall of 1996, I started my college career at University of Pittsburgh. I was thrilled for the diversity, being hidden away in the woods from it for 18 years. A girl down the hall from me was from Puerto Rico, and struggled with English. I noticed a lot of people didn't take the time to get to know her because of the language barrier. It was perfect for me, I wanted to learn Spanish better. We became awesome friends. She (and our friend Ricardo who I met through her) went to Kane with me for Thanksgiving break for a week of sledding and watching movies and hanging out, and I went with her to Puerto Rico for Spring Break. We lost touch for a while, then I get this message from facebook last night:

I know or I'm confuse, Did you at Pitt 1996 Please tell me you are. I'm Yari from Puerto Rico Are you?

I was so excited. I replied back:
¡Yamaris, me acuerdo de ti! ¡Te extraño! ¡Ahora somos amigas en facebook! ¿Hablas con Ricardo de Pitt?

Este jueves voy a viajar a Lima, Peru. Mi español es horrible, lo siento. I am vacationing in Peru porque tengo amigos en Lima. Dos de mis amigas de Fort Collins visitan mis amigos en Lima, y quiero visitar, viajar, y explorar todo de Peru. ¡Machu Picchu y Lago Titicaca! ¿Que es su dirección?, enviaré un postal. ¿Recuerdas Lisa de Pitt? Ella todavía vive en Pennsylvania, ella es casado (married, I mean).

¿Como estas? ¿Casado? ¿Niños?

I am still in school! I took a long break. I keep traveling!

This Thursday I am going to travel to Lima, Peru. My Spanish is horrible, sorry. I am vacationing in Peru because I have friends in Lima. Two of my friends from Fort Collins are visiting my friends in Lima, and I want to visit, travel, and explore all of Peru. Machu Picchu and Lake Titicaca! What is your address, I will send you a postcard. Remember Lisa from Pitt? She still lives in Pennsylvania, she is married (married, I mean).

Yamaris sent me a message back this morning. Spanglish, just like old times, but we both try as much as we can in the other's language.

I'm a insurance Agent I have one son I never married. My english is getting bad too, don't worry. I have 2 classes left to finish my BA, QUe mal!!! I was reading your message y no me he olvidado de tu voz, I can imaging you talking to me that's weird! What happen to you did you married too? How is Lisa? is she in facebook? Where do you live, what is Fot Collins?

The Spanish she has there is and I have not forgotten your voice, she is such a sweetie! I'm excited to be back in touch with her.

Now, not only that, but I get a text this morning from Aida saying "I will be in fc at about 8 pm tonigth. Hope to see you soon.- Aida"
She's also from Puerto Rico, but I met her here when she was getting her Ph.D. Now she lives in West Virginia getting her postdoc! We will probably end up at Elliot's Martini Bar with a bunch of people. I miss Aida!

I think my vertigo has finally subsided. I felt nauseous this morning, but now it's getting better! Hopefully I will be fully functional by noon. That is the plan, anyhow.

I'm still sickies

I just looked at the nablopomo blogroll, and I'm the fourth one down in the I's! Yay! 4 is my fave number.

I was home sick all day today. Feeling better, but oddly I haven't went to the bathroom all day. I don't think I'm sweating out all the tea and water I have been drinking, but maybe. I will rest up more tomorrow, and go to class and workout and to work if I am not too sick.

Sickies

I went to the doctor today because I woke up sick, went back to sleep and slept through my class that I had to turn my (finished) homework into. Sad. I am doing so poor again in my only two classes. Hopefully this doesn't bode as a bad omen for next semester. I was dizzy and nauseous the rest of the day, and after going to the doctor was given some stuff for the dizzy. Was told I have a virus, which is what they always seem to tell me lately when I am sick. I'm supposed to stay home tomorrow and…

This has to be short, because Elan is sick and crabby.

Today I woke up from a strange dream. People I used to hang out with but don't see anymore were in it, they were in a restaurant and I ran up to talk to them (Quentin and Anne). First day of school after break

School went ok today. I understood most of what was going on in Linear Algebra, then went to work out with Amy. Wore my new Nike shoes, and ran "Hills +" on the elliptical machine. I went 3.19 miles today in 35 minutes. Not bad! I also had my telemetry strap on, and looked at my pulse-reading watch and noticed it matched right up with the pulse reading on the elliptical machine. Then I realized the elliptical machine was reading my pulse even when I wasn't touching it. Hmmm...then I realized the…

Two of my sons are going to CSU (my husband and I went there, too!). The older boy is a Construction Management major who will graduate in December. The younger one is a sophomore living at home (we're in FoCo) still undecided, but leaning towards CIS, I think. He works part time at the computer lab for the business school.

Kid #3 is a senior at Poudre High. Not sure where she'll be going to school yet.
