I was just sitting here typing when I felt a bug fly into my bra. I thought to myself “Did a bug just fly into my bra?” I wasn’t quite sure, until I felt it stinging or biting or something. My first instinct was to stand up and fling my bra off and start searching for the offensive thing. Unfortunately, I had a 17-yr-old and 18-yr-old boy in the same room with me. I could just imagine their faces as A) a female suddenl…

I’ve got it.
Oh my god.
This is it.
I’m so doing this.
This is what I’ve been waiting for.
Why didn’t I think of this before?
It’s so obvious.
This is the wave of the future.
This will be my ticket out.
This is the chance of a lifetime.
I’m totally doing this one.
For real this time.
This is THEE one.
[Angels sing a short burst of Handel’s Messiah]

It’s so simple.

"I really want to go to this book signing, you think we can find a way
to make it work?" I asked M as I headed to work this morning. Little L
woke up completely fever free, and, though I had originally decided to
stay home with her today I quickly realized that there was really no
reason to keep her from daycare. She was chipper and showed no sign of
the rash that would have indicated she was suffering from Roseola. And
so I got her ready and dropped her off a little over an hour after M

I am a Bear den leader at Cub Scouts, and today was our den meeting. Consequently, when I got home it was dinner time, and there was no dinner to be found anywhere. I was planning hamburgers, but I just needed to put my feet up a minute because Cub Scouts wears me out. You know, nine-year-old boys and all. Fine, I only have one Bear, but he wears me out, okay?! Besides, there’s all that rural traffic. It’s getting wors…

My friend, Peggy, used to say she was feeling "meepy". Best characterized as a generalized feeling "down"...but not really sad...not really depressed....just sort of tired and not motivated. I've been working so hard in school, so intensely...and trying to also get work done in the studio. I just don't think I've had enough sleep lately. Maybe I'll turn in early tonight.
I need to get to New Orleans to see Kate and the girls soon. She suggested June, after school is out, but I will have…

The problem with oral exams is not that I have to *do* them. I love having the chance to have a 1-on-1 with each student, hear how much they’ve improved since the start of the semester, find out how their
final exams are going, etc etc.
But there is one distinct drawback to the oral exam thrill: having to listen to my own voice recorded—in Spanish—and played back to me so that I can hear how many grammatical errors I myself made when speaking. Plus the joy of hearing my idioti…

I am alone at work (as I usually am) and left with my thoughts. Unfortunately when that happens my thoughts do not run to the myriad of things I need to get done with our countless, begun yet not finished, home improvement projects and instead tend to wander to the days when my granddaughter was in my life. I was with her throughtout her in utero days, there when she was born (August 12, 2005), there for many, many firsts and then it was over. My daughter-in-law and son decided they could not…

Last night was awesome, and the reason that I hardly have a voice today. What did I do you ask? I went to a special solo performance by Bryan Adams. The all acoustic show was unbelievable. He did such a fablous job. The show wasn't in a big venue, more like a local bar setting so the crowd was a lot smaller than you'd expect although the show was a complete sell out. He interacted with the audience trading small conservation, even played some songs people in the audience yelled out.

First of all, huge love and thanks to all our awesomely supportive friends and family who emerge from behind the blog scenes every now and then to support our art with their hard earned cash. Even e-mails and comments mean the world to us, especially following huge existential

Honestly, I just can't do voices. I liked letters, I wish I had been around for lists, but voices has beaten me.
Every idea I come up with falls under two categories: 1) Cute things my kids have said and 2) depressing "look inside yourself" kind of posts. I'm not big on either and frankly, my kids aren't that cute. Sure, I could post about singers I love or important people that need to be heard, but that really doesn't fit in with the useless drivel that I generally try to stick with.…

Since my real live blog, blog on with califmom, has been hijacked by blogger, I'm going to post here. This is the first time in 4 years of blogging that I've been unable to view my blog. The really lovely part is that blogger appears to have no actual email contact...just a less-than-helpful forum where you can't even search on the error. Ugh! So, today's "voice" is an angry one, that's going unheard in its usual locale.

I’m not a prissy, primpy girl. It’s never been my thing to be dressed to the nines, perfectly coifed and spit-polished. I’m mostly the wash-and-go type.
I do, on occasion, like to get a mani-pedi, and three or four times a year I get my hair cut and styled. If I’m feeling crazy I will even get my eyebrows waxed.
By far the most expensive thing is my haircut. I used to go to the salons in Wal-Mart but after twice crying my eyes out over the latest hair disaster, I finally went to…

I got hijacked by a run to Oh-So-NoCal Café with KnitKitteh, and so no chapter writing got done, but there was a copious amount of intellectual conversation at Oh-So-NoCal Café that made up for it. Of

about which character on “Friends” was most pitiable—KnitKitteh and I
both agreed that it is the emasculated Chandler that deserves the most

I like meat. Specifically chicken, but most any meat is acceptable to me. There was a time when I didn't eat pork because I was too involved in the process of how it

not like androgynous punk-grunge that the rest of us had become. To
this day, I still admire other people's clothes more than my own. I
always wish I had "those p…

When I think of voice, I think of Gordon Ramsay. (Full disclosure:
I've got a bit of a celebrity crush on him. Moving on...) (Full
disclosure 2: I'm doing this all off the top of my head, so my facts
are hopefully close, but I'm not guaranteeing accuracy, and I really
don't feel like googling everything right now.) He's famous for his
mouth, for having half of what he says on each show beeped out. I
mean, he's got a show called The F Word; that's quite telling.
In our local weekly new…

I biked another 2 miles tonight. It wasn't as hard as I remember from the other day.
I've been introspective lately about this blog, my blogging. I set this space up because I had the domain and the brother to make it happen, and so here it is.
I get paid for some things I write here, but that's not what it's all about. My original blog is still around, and that has always been personal. I want to be personal here, too (and eventually do away with
that other blog).
The th…

I had a long discussion with the boy today. Actually, it wasn't so much a discussion as it was my pounding my head against the wall for opening my mouth in the first place.
We drive around an apartment complex. Don't ask me why. He likes to "peek around" as he puts it. So we were peeking around after school and we spied a family of geese. Some chicks were on the sidewalk, a couple in the grass, and one of the parents was standing on the road.
So, wanting to be a good mommy, I s…

I have, inside my head this voice. Not so very nice. Mostly it hides deep inside. In the farthest corners of my mind. Sometimes though, when I least expect it, it comes out. It doesn't creep. Nor does it crawl. It make its presence known. I try to squash it. Shove it back in the dark corners where it slumbers. It fights with me, this voice. It doesn't want to be silenced. It wants to heard. I tell the voice that there is always a time and a place. Now is not the time. Now is definately, not the…

Mrs. Smith! Oh, Mrs. Smiiiii-iiiiith! I know you hear me. It isn't nice to ignore me. Just open the closet door. You know where Mr. Smith keeps me. He won't mind if you finish me off, he loves you. He probably left me here for you.
Let's look at the facts, shall we? He knew when he put me here that he was going out of town leaving you here, all by yourself. He knew that after two days of having the kids all day without the reprieve of being w…

The Universe smiles upon me!!!!
I'm a member of a group on Ravelry—an online community for knitters/crocheters—and last night while screwing around with the community forums, I stumbled across a group for
Knitters who love the band R.E.M.

I've been listening to R.E.M. since I…
