So Rupert Murdoch is considering not allowing Google to search his precious content. A move that Douglas Rushkoff wholeheartedly approves of apparently.

“Rupert Murdoch may end up being our last best hope for a peaceful solution to the Internet’s war on professional journalism.
[T]he competitive advantage professional journalism enjoys over the free is just that: professional journalists, whose paid positions give them the time and resources they need to commit more fully to the task. If we can’t do better, so be it. But at the current rate, we won’t have the opportunity to find out.
Of course, Murdoch’s remarks are really just a trial balloon. He has initiated a conversation—but one that few of us are in a position to back up with a multibillion-dollar media empire. By suggesting that he is ready to pull the plug on universally searchable news, he is inviting other publishers in the same position to consider taking the same leap.
I, for one, hope they do.”

Quite frankly I'm sick of this bullshit.(This is not the first time that I've written about this topic and it probably won't be the last. But every time it pisses me off. I'm tired of bloggers being treated like parasites.) Here's what really is happening. The old model of someone like Murdoch having almost total control of the news, both gathering and distribution has ended. But rather than try to blaze a new trail, Murdoch and others like him would rather try to cripple something that they not only don't understand, but that is essentially doing what they used to do, only better. They don't like the competition so they are trying to hobble the other players so they can retain their advantage. My how Harrison Bergeron of him.

Personally I think that Mr. Murdoch should build his wall, and build it high. And then in a few months time when no one except a handful of subscribers is coming to his precious news paper's sites, it will give me great delight to watch him dismantle that wall and eat every last fucking brick.

But in the meantime as regards the departure of the Right Wing, racist, sexist crap that he passes off as news, I would just like to quote the prophet Randal Graves...

“You'll be missed.”
