Last night the Boy and I were watching "60 Minutes" and "The Amazing Race," and during one of them, a commercial came on for a medicine to combat Restless Leg Syndrome. Pharma ads are always funny because of the long list of possible side effects. We were stunned, however, to hear "possible urge to gamble" for this one.
We thought it was a joke, but apparently something in the drug can give non-gamblers a strange urge to gamble. The Mayo Clinic has even done some studies including one non-gambler whose reaction to the RLS drug compelled her to gamble, and she ended up losing $140,000.
Boy, it's bad enough that drugs in the US cost an arm and a leg, but one that can cause you to pretty much lose the shirt off your back too? I can't imagine suffering through that. I'd think about trying to live with the restless legs.
