What is your idea of "happily ever after?" That is the concept that I struggle with when reading fairy tales to my daughters. I try to convey to them that BEFORE I met their father and got married I was living "happily ever after." He was just icing on the (wedding) cake. I tell them, they can find fulfilling lives of travel, careers and good fr

I think I am going to stop posting to NaBloPoMo. I ran out of ways to write about the August theme of "hot," and the September theme of "ha" provides me with no inspiration whatsoever.
I might come back sometime down the road, if the theme is something I can relate to. Till then... take care!

Well, finally a post that fits the month's theme of "hot" - hot tempers! At work today, I found some work instructions confusing because they omitted a key step, and I pointed that out to the person who had written up the instructions. I guess she didn't care to have her work critiqued, and - even though I wasn't trying to be critical, just trying to clarify things - she got all snippy and sarcastic with me. I took the high road and apologized to her via e-mail for perhaps not expressing myse…

Princess Bubble Doesn't Need Prince Charming to Live Happily Ever After
There's a new fairy tale princess in town: Princess Bubble.
Before you roll your eyes, however, I should note that Princess Bubble is different from other princesses: she ain't no damsel in distress, and she don't need to be rescued.

Was too tired to blog the past couple of nights... and my new work e-mail filter blocks NaBloPoMo.
I decided to take back the harness I was trying to use on Murray. It was a dog harness, and just not made for a cat's physiology - the straps were too wide and rigid, making it like a straitjacket for him. But standard cat harnesses were too small for my big boy. So, I posed a query on some cat discussion Web sites about where to find extra-large cat harnesses, and several people recommen…

I did get a good-quality harness/leash after all (I had a coupon for PetSmart that I had forgotten about, so they weren't very expensive). I had trouble figuring out how to put it on properly; had to watch a "how-to" video on the Internet. I think I've got it now, but Murray doesn't seem to like having it on. He acts as if he can barely walk when it's on. But maybe he'll get more used to it. I'll give it a week or so before I give up on it.

Well, the cheap harness/leash contraption ended up breaking, so I guess the training experiment is at an end. There are more expensive devices out there, but I don't know if it's worth it. My kitty doesn't seem to be missing out on anything staying in the house. I'll try taking the cheap one back to the pet store, though my cat has snagged the material with his claws in a few places. So they probably won't take it back. But it is worth a shot.

My poor Murray threw up overnight, for just the third time, I think, in the nearly four years he has lived with me. I wonder whether it's because I've been giving him more treats than normal, as I attempt to leash-train him. Maybe they are too rich for his little tummy. I'll have to cut back and just put the leash on him once a day, and give him just one treat serving a day, at that time.
Not much else going on. Bored at work, nothing to do. I can't wait to go home!!

"Write a letter to yourself, then in one year or more, I will return
the letters to you. I will not open them so you can write whatever you
want. Think about what's important to you, what's been on your mind,
and maybe some advice you'd like to give yourself in one year."
I did this every year with every class for seven years and now I have a box of these letters that I have never returned - and it's been ten years.

Too tired to post much tonight. Not much going on. Sold one credit app at Sears today. Would've had a second, but was at lunch when the customer signed up.
Murray is doing fairly well with having the leash put on him. If nothing else, he likes it as a toy. I give him a treat whenever I put the leash on him, so he will associate it with positive experiences. He's learned not to fight me when I try to take it off, because if he fights, that means it doesn't come off!

Another off-the-"hot"-topic post...
I'm taking another stab at leash-training my cat. I tried once before, but I acted too hastily and didn't really give him a chance to get used to the harness/leash before trying to walk him. So he resisted. But recently I found online some good tips on how to leash-train, and they stressed patience and moving very slowly. They said to get the cat used to walking around by himself with the harness/leash, rewarding him with treats and praise, and get h…

I'm getting an estimate today on drapes for my bedroom. I am hoping they will help keep the heat out, but my main reason for getting them is because my window faces east, and the sun comes streaming in early in the morning and wakes me up at, like, 5 a.m. (Right now, all I have are some wimpy blinds that don't do a darn thing to stop light.) My cat also gets restless when the sun has lit up the room, and he tries to get me out of bed. So I'm hoping the drapes will help in several ways. If they l…
