NaBloPoMo

National Blog Posting Month

Thought we could use a place to share our strategies for banging out the words, other than typing out all numbers and dates (which I'm totally doing, by the way).

I've found a lot of luck dictating my story into a voice recorder on my drive to/from work. I've got 2 hours in the car a day, and I end up with about 4,000 words from that alone.

I'm also tackling things really piecemeal, and I figure I'll worry about ordering the story better later.

Don't have a real plot yet, but I'm learning a lot about my characters, which is a good first step in my book.

And I'm ignoring everyone else's progress and concentrating on getting there on my own. I know I can do it, even if it takes me all month--I will reach 50,000 words.

So how about you?

I'm having fun with my character.
In the last couple of days I feel almost as if she takes over when I banging away on the keyboard.
I know that I will be working on this novel long after November is over.

I find tracking other people's progress is very motivating, so I check often.
I find brainstorming on paper (outside of the novel) very useful to plot development, and adding lots of detail in terms of description, inner thoughts, etc., helps keep the words flying. I haven't written a novel or even a short story before, but I am enjoying this. It helps so much to be part of this event. I probably wouldn't have even started without Nanowrimo.
