Wheel of Time is a great series (I've read 11 books in the series and am waiting for the 12th to be released), but at the moment, I'm reading Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone in Spanish (among other books - I typically have.three or four on the go at any one time).
Wheel of Time is one of my favorite series! It's SO sad that Robert Jordan passed. It makes me wonder if the series will be finished or not.
At the moment, I'm working on Harry Potter 5 in Italian, and am thinking about starting over on Wheel of Time. I'm definitely a multi-book-at-one-time kinda gal!
I didn't know that Robert Jordan passed! Now you have me all panicky, I can't imagine getting through 11 books just to find out that I can't find out a conclusion!
I haven't read much fantasy or sci-fi in a while, but started this group out of my love for the Narnia books, the Harry Potter books, and the His Dark Materials books. I hope they do a good job with The Golden Compass movie!
Yes! They are tremendous! I'm a big reader, always have been, and they are in my all-time top ten desert island book stack. They rank above Narnia and Harry Potter for me. Definitely read The Golden Compass before you see the movie.
The fact that they leave all the anti-church stuff out of The Golden Compass makes me wonder what this film is all about, since The Church and its laws are central to the plot. Still I am excited by the previews I have seen. As long as the kid playing Lyra can act, I think the movie will be fantastic. It won't be the book, but it will still be a good film.
I'm just excited about the armoured polar bears! From the preview it looks like they absolutely nailed that. But yeah, if all the anti-church stuff is left out, that will defeat the whole point of the story. It is still a good yarn without it, but if the "why" isn't there, then it is just a kid's movie. Instead of a mind-blowing, life-altering way of looking at the world...
