So what is everyone reading at the moment? Or along another tangent, what are your favourite novels that qualify you for the group?

I am currently at book 10 of Robert Jordans, Wheel Of Time And I adore David Eddings along with many other great novels and authors.

At the moment, I'm working on Harry Potter 5 in Italian, and am thinking about starting over on Wheel of Time. I'm definitely a multi-book-at-one-time kinda gal!; ▶ Reply to This

They rank above Narnia and Harry Potter for me. Definitely read The Golden Compass before you see the movie.; ▶ Reply to This

Permalink Reply by Riayn on November 8, 2007 at 3:02pm: The fact that they leave all the anti-church stuff out of The Golden Compass makes me wonder what this film is all about, since The Church and its laws are central to the plot. Still I am excited by the previews I have seen. As long as the kid playing Lyra can act, I think the movie will be fantastic. It won't be the book, but it will still be a good film.; ▶ Reply to This

But yeah, if all the anti-church stuff is left out, that will defeat the whole point of the story. It is still a good yarn without it, but if the "why" isn't there, then it is just a kid's movie. Instead of a mind-blowing, life-altering way of looking at the world...; ▶ Reply to This
