Soothing Anxieties

Today on my Blog, A Wild Ride, I wrote:

At the risk of sounding weird, I’ll let you in on a secret: I still read at night to my almost thirteen-year-old son. We have found that our nighttime ritual, cuddling and hearing my voice, calms his anxieties and promises a better chance at a good night’s sleep (for both of us).

I would to hear your "fear-calming" strategies.

I think that's awesome. And honestly, that's one of the things I love about having a child with autism - they don't seem to outgrow that need for being comforted by their mamas!

We do similar calming things - singing is a big one in our house. My boy LOVES music by Laurie Berkner, and there are a couple of her songs that he will sing along with me, and it really calms him down. Another thing he likes is being buried under a pile of sofa pillows and a big blanket, where he can hide and just chill out for awhile.
