A nursing tidbit for Day 12. It's not really gross, unless you are a complete and total pussy. Then again, part of the reason I got into nursing was because I sort of *dig* gross, so my idea of what of gross may be skewed.
For comparison, I'm not crazy about 4th degree burns, large gobs of sputum (or phlegm) or the smell of burning insides when they cauterize fleshybits during an operation.
I just "graduated" myself from iMovie to Final Cut, and thought I could figure out my compression settings all over again. The interlacing on my vids, as noticed on yesterday's Quick and more-dirty-than-I-thought-it would-be Carbonara vid had me running back to FreeVlog after a couple of hours of tinkering hoping there was a compression tutorial for FC, and there was. Thanks be to Ryanne, Verdi and the rest at FreeVlog, and here's the vid I was testing for a few hours. Do you know the film quoted on the soundtrack? Bonus if you know who remixed it.
this is about 3 and a half minutes of my drive to work in Jerusalem - taken this morning. most days the taxi driver takes me through the religious area. sometimes along the freeway 'begin north'. I like going through the suburbs as it's more interesting to see people on their way to work or doing their daily tasks in the morning. at night it's late and dark so it's harder to take video. I sometimes worry about filming people, but the compression and reduction in size has made the people unrecognizable, and yet enough to trigger my memory. I love the Jerusalem stone buildings (limestone I think) - there's a rule that says all the buildings in Jerusalem have to be made of Jerusalem stone. I think it helps keep it's character. the old buildings are large blocks of stones, the newer ones are just 1inch veneer and some are starting to incorporate plates of glass.
the song is "My Life" by Echotek, an Israeli artist - from the album "Life Is... Dimensions" on Israeli label BNE records. I bought a few of their releases during my last visit - great sounds!

(it's just cut edited in QT pro with the raw clips and was a bumpy ride - I must go to a lot of places with potholes..)
So many of you taking part in NaVloPoMo have been writing comments on my videos every day, so I know you’re watching - AND you’re making incredible films. Which is what it should be all about, I feel - I don’t want to just be making films here, I want to be watching and talking, responding and collaborating. But I haven’t been able to find the time to do that for days. So I’ve tried to steal a couple of hours this evening to watch videos.
I watched 5-10 films while the dinner was in the oven between 8 and 9. Then I watched a few more while Kate ordered our shopping online between 10 and 11.30.
And I still hadn’t made a film myself. In fact, I was so busy watching that I’d totally forgotten that I was even supposed to make one myself. Until 11.33pm. So this is the only option left to me! Really fulfilling what I said at the beginning of NaVloPoMo about just posting ANYTHING. You can’t even *see* this, the low light filming on my phone is so bad.
Anyway, the point is that I’m humbled by the talent and passion and generosity everybody’s showing by both creating and watching other people. And a bit frustrated at why I can’t get my shit together to do it better myself.
At some point, I want to try to share links to some of the videos I’ve watched. But there are dozens being posted for NaVloPoMo each day, and I’m days and days behind.
Now I’m really finally off to my bed on the floor. Kate and I usually hang out quite a lot in the evenings, so it felt a bit weird watching separate things in separate rooms. I wish I could both watch and hang with her. Perhaps I’m going to have to set up an Apple TV in our living room and drag her even further into our hell.
same boat here...its miserable. so much good stuff going on. I want in. All I can do is cheer on everybody else at this stage. Half way through its been a really great experience looking at video from all over the world, in all shapes and guises. Very impressive, eh.
