What new goodie are you making for the Holiday Season?

I am going to give a hand at regular and cheesecake petit fours. I am also going to attempt to channel my inner craftiness and make some homemade gift baskets. We'll see how it goes. So what are you attempting this Season that is out of the ordinary for you?

I have a good one that will knock your socks off. :) I am actually collecting acorns, will be drilling a tiny hole through each dang one of them, and string them for the Christmas tree! And it can't just be any acorn... it has to be an acorn with the top. (sometimes the tops fall off, you know) If the top falls off of the acorns I've already collected, I'm even considering hot gluing the buggers back on. Crazy. Just call me Martha Stuart.

I'm making ornaments. I'm actually hosting a little ornament exchange, which I'm excited/nervous about. This weekend I'm going to make some homemade candies to take to parties this Christmas. I also made a few Subversive Cross Stitch creations for gifts for some of my friends. I love having a little bit of a handmade Christmas!

I would love some suggestions!!! I usually make one or two homemade things to give along with something store-bought, and it's usually something edible. This year I'd like to break the mold and go with something that has a bit more of a shelf (or branch or dangle-in-the-window...) life. My 'handicap' at the moment is that I can't narrow down what to make! I can sew, knit, crochet, paint, draw, weave, screenprint, bead, work with polymer clay, do origami and kirigami, manage power tools... I have a BFA in textiles, you get the idea: I've got skills. I'm thinking ornaments, I'd like something (or thingS) that can be produced assembly-line fashion. I just can't get my mind wrapped around the holidays. Please help me narrow my focus! Thanks!

BTW Mrs. Kiwi: I *love* the acorn idea. have you considered adding a little gold paint to some of the caps? Not all of them, and not regularly, just random ones, every now and again along the garland. Lay them out before you commit them to your cord or ribbon to determine arrangement. I hope you'll post photos! I did this with buckeyes (related to chestnuts, but significant to me as I live in the Buckeye State) one year, and interspersed wooden beads. Turned out great! Yours will too.

ACK! I'm not ready for the holidays yet...I still haven't quite wrapped my brain around the fact that Thanksgiving is next week!

With too many cats we lost most of our glass ornaments last year, so in the back of my mind, I have been thinking about making some gingerbread-y looking ornaments out of felted wool. I'm also looking for new seasonal dishes to try that would please my vegan daughter.

Now you've got me thinking!

I am loving all these Ideas and am known for second guessing myself. So darn it I am going to stick with the gift baskets and petit fours. I am thinking of throwing in some handmade ornaments though. These Savory Wild Rice Stuffed Onions sounded delicious. They also had other Vegan Holiday recipes.
