Abusive coworkers...

What to do with fellow co-workers that are verbally abusive? Most notably in stressful situations. Anyone else dealing with this?

From my experience, bullies are belligerent as long as they know they can get away with it. As a new grad, there were nurses who were mean to me, but as I stood up for myself, they started leaving me alone to prey on those who won't. First, say something to them. They might not even be aware they are being assholes during a stressful situation (we all deal with stress differently). If that doesn't help, talk to your manager. What your coworker is doing is creating a hostile work environment, and most places have a zero-tolerance policy against it.

You are right. I have spoken with her directly, that hasn't helped. And I have talked to my supervisor with no results. I obviously need to continue speaking up instead of avoiding the confrontation. I think many nurses use the passive aggressive approach and I always vowed not to do that. But here I am. I will continue to use my own zero-tolerance policy. Thanks for your input!
