Unfortunately I have Lupus which has slowed me down considerably. However, just three short years ago I ran a half-marathon. I am thinking about swimming which my doctor recommends in small doses.
We eat very healthy, belong to a CSA and an organic produce coop plus an organic grocery coop.
My Mom had lupus and a rare blood disease called Porpheria. She was a trip! She would dress in pants and jackets and stuff and say she was a werewolf and can't be out in the sun! I remember when I started noticing she had facial hair she said it was because she was a werewolf and a vampire... now I know it was Menopause! LOL Unfortunately the meds for the lupus irritated her Porpheria and vice versa.
For exercize I swim. I love it! I feel like a mermaid when I swim! I wear split fins on my feet and webbed hand gloves - really gives me a work out! I have been swimming a mile a day, but Saturday I swam a mile and a half which I do from time to time. Unfortunately somehow while a I was dressing I twisted my back when I turned and irritated my L-3 vertibrate and was on the couch until today (I didn't want to keep my hubby up with moans and groans and twisting and turning... he already wears earplugs because I have come to the age of snoring, loud snoring!
I use to run but I am such a clutz! I use to trip over nothing! One time I was running down the street and flipped over on the sidewalk just as the Traffic Heliocopter went over! They turned around to see if I was alright! Sooo embarrassed! When I got home I told my hubby what happened and he laughed and said
"Breaking News at 6!" I laughed and said "For now on I am going to lay on the couch and eat Bonn bonns! It is much safer for me!" LOL
So I started swimming thinking I couldn't get hurt (drowned maybe but nothurt).... surprise! Good thing is the Chiropractor insisted I do NO HOUSEWORK!!!!! Not that I do a aton of it anyways.... but I can't swim either, just sit around with an ice pack and watch TV, journal, do my artwork.... Do you hear me complaining? I think not!
I love to swim, too, but right now, it's kind of cold, even here in LA. Oh, I could go to an indoor pool, for now, walking is my choice of exercise. As it warms up, I'll get back in the pool again. I'm still waiting for the perfect tan (I'm very white and don't tan well, plus with all the info about skin cancer, I'm not much of a sunbather.)
I'm sorry to hear about your back, but I'm sure you'll be back in the pool in no time. And a mile a day, I'm impressed. When I swim, I time the swim, so I have no idea how far I can go.
Don't forget, it will take at least 3 hours of ironing to work off those Bonn bonns......................:)
So, you may not be able to swim or do housework, but ironing is in a catagory all by itself. I'm sure your doctor would approve......................LOL
