rant about your most hated font!

let's hear which font makes you feel like the entire world is clawing at a chalkboard.

God I hate Comic Sans, Brush Script - and yes - HELVETICA. Everyone at my office is banned from using it. ;)

You know, compared to Comic Sans, even Hobo has character and camp value. Comic Sans, tho, is wack.

Tekton!!! eeeeeeekkkkkkkcccckkkkxxxxx

I will use Helvetica sparingly, but only if it's a pro version where they've got the optical spacing right. Most of those throwaway versons that come with the computer (gawd forbid) are just that: throwaway. Also, I know many people are fans, but I won't use Futura. Just a gut aversion to some of the character shapes.

typewriter! and TNR in small font on the web. I'm a comic sans snob, too. Not a fan. Lots of my small town clients want it, bad. "It's casual!"

Papyrus and Comic Sans. I once saw MTV use Comic - i was shocked that a station that is supposedly hip and now would use that font!

This might mark me as a heretic, but I loathe Helvetica.

I'd go into exactly why, but it's one of my planned NaBloPoMo posts. I haven't really mapped out the month, I promise, but I was ruminating and ranting on Helvetica the other day in the studio and thought, "I should write this down!" So I did. :-]

Tekton and Fajita Sans are also high on the list.

Brush Script. (Although I kind of have a soft spot for House's "brush" line of faces.)

Marker Felt (Comic Sans bastard love child)

Man, I could go on for a while. Better stop there. :-]

I heart Papyrus.

And by heart, I mean loathe.

Comic Sans. TOTALLY loathe.

TImes New Roman. TOTALLY stale. Give me Minion Pro over TNR any day.

Tunga. The name alone... not pleasing to my ear. Superficial? Totally.

At the risk of sounding like a total geek, does anyone else out there totally have a font fetish? (And I mean that in a non-creepy way.) :)

Mmmm, Baskerville is amazing, as well as Affair and Adobe Caslon Italic.

And I pretty much ooze all over GeoSansLight, but don't tell anybody...

We should just rename this group "People Who Loathe Comic Sans". SIgn me up!

It's hard to believe that I could hate something more than Comic Sans, but I do. What's up with the recent preponderance of road signs in ugly, ultra-weight sans serif fonts? (They're everywhere in the Philly suburbs.) They're not only aesthetically hideous, the lack of quick legibility makes them an actual danger to drivers.

To me, it's clear evidence of visual design being handed over technocratic middle managers. "Oh yeah, bold makes things more visible, so ultrabold-on-steroids is even better, right? Long live innovation!" Idiots.
