NaBloPoMo

National Blog Posting Month

Just to clarify, scheduled posts and the use of chron jobs is generally considered being a cheaterpants, right?

I mean, I realize there's no way to check on this, but being from a small town, I'm a firm believer in the honor system.

Mmhmm. All of this is pretty much on the honor system and of course there are going to be those who don't follow it exactly as originally planned, but it happens. Hopefully, those people don't win prizes....and the rest of us have fun with the challenge itself.

Okay, I'll ask. What are scheduled posts and chron jobs? Chron job sounds a little nasty, but I'm betting I'm off-track on the real meaning. Please educate me!

Many blog interfaces give users the option of setting up a post so that it will publish at some point in the future, which is what a scheduled post is. In other words, I could write something tonight and set it to post next Tuesday, or a year from now, or pretty much whenever.

For bloggers who have control over their own servers, a cron job is a scheduled task which checks for scheduled posts and then publishes them.

Thank you s.e. smith! That's way too high-tech for me. I'm barely getting posts from paper to the computer.

Plus that would ease the torture of blogging something every day and who wants to miss out on that?

i think it's gotta be a bit at your discretion. if you KNOW you're not going to be able to get to a computer for 24 hours (flying somewhere far away?) then I think it's kosher, but just doing it because you're lazy is different. I tend to start posts and save them in my drafts till I want to finish them and blog it, but i don't schedule them.
