NaBloPoMo

National Blog Posting Month

Before the rush of November is upon us, I thought I would let everyone know what I write, and maybe some of you will do the same. I write a weekly article for the local paper. Usually I do education or parenting, but my favorite are gardening articles, so I sneak one of those in sometimes too. They wanted the parenting/education articles because I had kids (2 elementary, 2 post college) which is 4 more than the previous education writer. Articles run from 800 - 2000 words a week. I also freelance as a garden writer. My biggest challenge is figuring out what to write each week. Last week it was well into Tuesday when I decided on something, which was late for a Friday deadline. Then Thursday morning I was asked when it would be in, as they had moved the deadline to first thing Friday, hopefully Thursday. I ended up changing the topic and submitting at 9 a.m. Friday.

I am also a journalist and writer. Journalism is my profession, and I work from home as a freelancer (I have three children, so it's highly convenient) for various corporate publications. I am also a blogger - clearly - and an aspiring novelist. If I didn't have so many deadlines next month I'd be seriously considering NaNoWriMo too!

Well it sounds great, Kate! It's a gift to be able to write about something you truly love, isn't it?

I am a freelance journalist, primarily in the entertainment industry. I recently relocated and ended up leaving a great job within the Detroit Media Circuit and now primarily do film critiquing. I do other consumer interest articles but am really trying to focus on finalizing a novel and pursue the whole agent/publisher thing...

Check out you freelancers! Wish I had that luxury... I'm a full-time reporter for a weekly newspaper group. I write for two out of our 22 papers, and that translates to between 7 and 10 full length stories a week -- and usually at least one or two meetings (school board or city council) night meetings a week. It's ... ah ... stressful. Yeah. That's probably the best word for it.

um, yeah. that beats my two short stories. (but i'd like to do more.) if i didn't work full time doing other work, i think the coming up with topics would be easier for me. i tell myself that, anyway, that more time would allow me to brainstorm. feel free to burst my bubble, though. *grin*

Well, I used to be a journalist, and I'm now a fiction writer - I wrote for American Photo for four years, and left the full time scene to work on my novel, could I get more pretentious? Oh wait! I live in Brooklyn. Yep, I'm a cliche.

But at least I enjoy my own writing as much as I enjoyed writing for other people. And when, you know, I'm not busy enough with the day job and the novel, I blog at petithiboux.com. Looking forward to flexing all the writing muscles with nablopomo.

Krissa! I read your blog, have enjoyed it for years. Best of luck on the novel.
