I wrote all about Radiohead on my site today. They released their new album, In Rainbows, a few weeks ago. It's only available online through downloading. But, the cool thing is? They tell you to name your own price. So, you can pay $10 for it or $0.00.
I suggest you pay, since this is one of the coolest things I've heard a band doing in a long time. Metallica could take a few pointers from them. Along with the music industry as a whole.
You're right! More bands should be more concerned about their music and not their image (Metallica!). Have you heard of Niggy Tardust? It's a pretty rockin' collaboration between Trent Reznor (NIN) and Saul Williams. Like Radiohead, you can download the album for free, or pay a mere $5.00 for the entire album in FLAC or 320KBPS MP3s. Here's the LINK
In my humble opinion, In Rainbows is one of Radioheads better albums in a while. My favorite of theirs is still The Bends, then In Rainbows and finally OK Computer. Speaking of which, Stereogum.com had an "indie" tribute to OK Computer for free download. It's no longer available to download but you can still stream the album here!
It certainly is one of Radiohead's better albums, and its all that I've been listening to in the car for the last week. However, I feel cheated for two reasons:
1. I am an idiot, and didn't pay enough attention to the fact that the price is in British Pounds, not in U.S. Dollars or Euro. Stupid, stupid, I wound up paying $9 for the album.
2. I just read somewhere that it is a "teaser", and that when the actual physical CD comes out, there will be additional "bonus" tracks. Now, its one thing that I voluntarily forfeited the CD artwork (cuz after all, who reads the jewel cases nowadays?), but to discover that I may have been gyped out of the full album is something else. Has anyone else heard this?
Muddleman, while it IS kind of a teaser, the album that is being released in December will be a disc box and will include a TON of stuff and it will be awesome... I hear it's expensive, too. But THIS is their In Rainbows album. And I think it's worth $9. Although, I made the same "stupid" mistake, haha!! So much for READING. :P
I agree with The Bends being the best, although I think I still put OK before In Rainbows, but only just...
You might be on to something there. I need to go back and listen to Ok again, it does have a lot of classic Radiohead tunes on it. It also seems better produced as an album with all the tracks flowing nicely and cohesively (wha?!) into one another! That's it! Rainbows gets the bronze!
Rockstarmommy, do you have a link to the information about the release of the boxed set? Family members are starting to ask those uncomfortable "What do you want for the holidays?" questions, and for once I'd love to have an actual suggestion.
Has anyone been following the "conspiracy theories" behind Radiohead's releases? I'd heard a little about one of them, but the stories actually made Rolling Stone.
