Though I personally struggle daily to ferment a liberal outlook on those who won't see the sense of liberalism... I think it might be some sort of zen thing that I'm missing.

I struggle as well. For a long time I've been torn about how to breathe more life into the "Liberal" viewpoint once again. Liberalism is clearly under assault. The last 30 years have not been that kind to those of Liberal thought.
It's easy to be close minded. It's easy to sit within a shell or four walls and be afraid of the world.
The Zen I keep and the comfort I have is to remind myself that the cycle will prevail. History tells us that we're doomed to repeat the same cycles of understanding. I don't expect another Woodstock, but I do expect Liberal thought and Liberal media to eventually be restored and thrive again. Every little bit helps.
