hair that shouldn't be there

hi, over 40 ladies:
I thought I'd ask you about something that I'm having quite a bit of trouble with: hair that shouldn't be there. On my upper lip and chin, there are some very persnickety hairs and I'm not sure of the best way to get rid of them. Has anyone tried laser? or gone to any other professional?
thanks so much.

For me it's just the good old tweezers --ouch!

Tweezers work, a friend of mine used to get it waxed, I'm not sure that's a good idea. I don't really have much trouble that way, my body hair is blond, only an occasional hair that needs removing. Now if wrinkles could be removed that easy. Darn cigarettes! I smoked in my late teens, early twenties. I try to avoid straws now, don't want to get, what in England they call a cats ass. Nice, huh?

i use tweezer sometimes, when the chin hairs get unruly, but mostly I've always had a mustache, a faint one, but one that sometimes is noticeable, if i plucked that, my lip would fall off, so i just ignore that i have it. :)
I've tried waxing, but it makes my skin break out, so i guess I'll take hair over pimples.

No, no laser. I have a couple of persistent whiskers on the underside of my chin, and if I can't pull them out, my huzbink is intrigued by the concept. Go figure.

Oh my, "cat's ass" too funny! Very descriptive.
I tweeze the occasional hair but luckily it is not a problem for me........yet. I know it is coming:)

I've inherited my little old lady Sicilian great-grandma's mustache. It is starting to be unmanageable with just tweezers, so I began using the hair dissolving concotions. Kinda like Nair for your face... The ones I've tried are by Sally Hansen's (the nail polish company?!). They stink to high heaven, so you've been warned. I found I had a horrible reaction to the supposedly soothing lotion you put on afterwards, so go with caution is my advice.
Good luck getting un-hair-i-fied!

I personally wax and pluck. I've heard good things about laser and am thinking of trying it. Let us know what you try and if it works. I will say that I wax less often as time goes on. I just go in for the brow, lip and chin thing. I truly hate the chin hairs.

When I signed up for this group I thought it would be posts on more room in the house, more time with the hubby, and more disposable income---evidently not! lol So, let the games begin!

The hair on my upper lip began to darken in my late twenties. I used to bleach, but as has been stated, that stuff is TOX-ICK! So I figured the wax I used for my brows would do just fine. As long as you apply the wax in the direction of the hair growth and remove by pulling the skin tightly (BEFORE and as you begin to pull) in the opposite direction, there is very little pain. My eyes barely feel anything other than the pull anymore, the lip is almost there. I HATE the fluid wax with strips (gunky, messy and less effective), I use the kind that is VERY hard until it is nuked to soften it. I just apply it with an orange stick, let it become firm, but not hard and then pull it off. It's great.

Now I NEVER EVER would recommend waxing anywhere else...unless you are totally into excruciating pain. Above the neck...o.k., below? YIKES!!!

But I've heard that everyone woman should get a Brazilian wax at least once! I'm too chicken.

Seems like I've always had a tendency to have a bit of excess facial hair--most of it blondish, but some darker. My sister has PCOS (poly-cystic ovary syndrome), and it's much worse for her. So yeah, extra hair in the sideburn area, upper lips, chin... I've gotten it professionally waxed before, and not had a bad reaction to it. But most of the time, I just tweeze the ones that are noticeable (or have my husband help me). Our bathroom mirror/medicine cabinet is mounted a bit too high for me to see them--and I need good strong light, too. Often the best place for me to see these hairs is in the car (daylight, good mirror), so I like to keep a good set of tweezers in my purse, for those long stop lights!

You all mention the face... but as long as the subject is "hair that shouldn't be there," I'll say that just below the navel and around the nipples are two other problem areas I occasionally tweeze (fortunately no one sees that but me).

Yeah, once you pass 40 you may get hair in places you didn't even know you had. And places where you always had hair will get hairier. YUK! However, in another 10 to 15 years you will start to lose hair. I've never been really hairy, but I no longer have any hair under my arms, my legs are nearly bald, and a Brazilian wax would probably take 2 minutes or less. I do still have a few chin hairs, but even those are not as many or as wide spread as a few years ago. I just shave them off every couple days.

You shave your FACE? EEk! I'd never do that; it makes the hair come in thicker and coarser! Doesn't it?

I guess some people are lucky in that their hair thins with age (regardless of where on the body it is). But the thinning definitely can go too far, too. My M-I-L's hair is VERY thin, and I know of other women who resorted to wearing wigs in their old age. As for thinner hair anywhere else, that would be find by me (unless maybe my eyebrows vanished, too!).

I've seen older women that had thinned their eyebrows to the point, they had to pencil them in. Mine aren't too big, could probably use some perfecting, but I just leave them alone. If they were really thick, I'd more than likely pluck or wax them too. I tried a bit of plucking as a teen. It hurt and made my eyes teary. That was the end of my messing with them. I try to make sure, the hairs are brushed in a nice arc and up, but sometimes I forget that . I work nights, not many people see me.

I only shave the few hairs on my chin - not my whole face. And, no, it hasn't made them thicker or coarser.

Hi Ladies ...

I've had my brows, lip area and chin waxed for years - I now go to someone who does "Threading" which is very cool. No irritation to my skin and it works great. I don't mind the waxing, though. I'm not into plucking anything but the random stray hair.

I did have my legs waxed (and OWWW) but they looked good. Didn't keep that up - too costly. And yes, I did experience the private parts waxing (landing strip, not Brazilian) and I must vouch for the pain. OH MY GOD. I'm Italian so it wasn't a quick event, alas. Looked purty, though. I doubt I will go through that again.
